Worth to buy 2nd hand OPC car then convert to normal plate?

Generally, due to the restricted use of an OPC car, the mileage of a 3-year old OPC car is typically lower than a normal-plate vehicle (assuming the ex-owner did not drive to Malaysia too frequently). During the day, I observe that most OPC cars are parked in sheltered car park. Hence, OPC cars are usually better in terms of physical condition.

 

If one is thinking of buying a 3-year old car, is it worthwhile (financially-speaking) to buy a second hand OPC car and then convert it to normal usage?

 

Maybe we can take a year 2005 Altis as a platform for discussion.

u can always ask the used car dealer to convert and sell to u as normal car. I thk this will be a better way

I have the same idea.

Read up on the sgcarmart articles for converting from OPC to Normal.

If you dun mind the hassle, you should get a car with comparatively low mileage at the same price, IMHO.

 

Since the engine for OPC may not be started every couple of days. Probably the car battery is the first to up lorry.

Changing the battery is a small matter, what's more important is the engine had only clocked low mileage.

I think the process of converting an OPC to a normal plate car may not be so tedious.

Should only take 1 day to get the job done, and must have the required cash. True?

mileage may be low.. but if the driving habit is bad or the car is used for frequent short trips that does not allow the engine to warm up.. there might be lots of engine wear..

 

how to check if it is good? check for sludging in the engine?

Generally speaking, do we end up paying almost the same with that of a normal plate car (after the conversion), but the only advantage is that an ex-OPC is likely to have a lower mileage?

if u have the cash then its easier. most OPC owners trade in their cars for a normal plate car cos they can't fork out the conversion cost.

This is planning for the future after my current car expires.

 

If I should do so, it would be in full cash.

not a bad idea...but if buy fr dealer then usu aft conversion, the depn wil b almost same as norm car...of cos the adv is the supposed lower mileage..

if u hav cash, my advise is to get new car.....

 

2nd car if got prob, the list might b very long, OPC doesnt mean car is in better condition, it depend on how the previous owner take care of it.....

 

if i were u, i wil not look for 2nd hand car.....

 

u oso miss out on those tat park in open carpark, my hse carpark here hav quite a no of OPC, some don drive for 3-4 days and park under trees, why i knw 3-4 days bcoz its cover by birdsh!t....

If I were to buy an OPC car, I will take a walk in my neighborhood multi-storey car park, observe for well looked-after cars and then approach the owner directly.

 

That would be safer.

very hard to find OPC altis. most OPC i seen are korean makes and mostly compact cars
