What is :

1) slight spiking of tibial spines is seen consistent with early de-generation

2) bony density represent bone fragment

What kind of test to go to test bone density/etc...?

Thank You.....

give us the full report leh...

i can only explain 1)

bone spikes or osteophytes are abnormal bone growth as a result of excessive wear and tear and this usually occurs in joints or near the joints. bony spikes represent degeneration of the joints... which is termed osteoarthritis .... or "kwan jie yen". occasionally the bony spikes may break off and present itself as "loose bodies" in the joints itself.

in order to test your bone density, go for BMD (bone mineral densitometry ) test. it will basically measure the bone density at 2 areas...namely the hip and lumbar spine... the bone density is age adjusted, meaning it is compared to the average bone densities of people of the same age.... so if it is below 2.5 standard deviation then u have osteoporosis ("ku tou su song zhen"). if it between 1-2.5 SD, u have osteopenia... anything out of this range is normal bone density at that specified age.

"kwan jie yen" [sweatdrop][sweatdrop] I only 30s leh.....

Knee Right

Slight spiking of the tibial spines is seen consistence with early degenerative change. No bony erosions or areas of bony destructin demonstrated. No frature seen.

Right 3rd 4th 5th fingers (frontal) & Lateral view of fingers (unidentified)

There is a bony density seen at the base of the proximal phalanx of the right middle finger on the frontal view. This could represent a bony fragment.

Is this serious or ??? [sweatdrop]

did you have some significant knee injury before or play rough sports like soccer / rugby ???

how come your middle finger got bony fragment??? it could represent an old injury such as a very bad middle finger "sprain".

in any case , if its painful over the affected side where the abnormality is, you should investigate further... ( i believe you are finding ways to get yourself downgraded??... else if theres no pain over the affected parts or significant injury... hey leave them alone and enjoy life rather than worry bout it...

xrays can reveal many bony abnormalities, but doctors dont treat xrays alone...xray findings are co-related with clinical findings as well as the patient's complaints.

Osteophytes are normal fragments that occur as you age

So glad can get medical advice in a car forum....... [thumbsup]

actually I got knee problem for years. My knee tends to lock itself when straigten and got those cracking sound (since my school days). But I dun really bother unless I go running and heavy load stuff. Got those kind of bone rubbing bone feeling and pain in that particular region. Think recently got kind of worst..... [smallcry]

For the hand, I actually complain of my last finger got very painful when bend fully. The GP try to bend my finger and I almost scream at him. He told me last finger is quite useless.... and I was [shocked]. For the fragment, not too sure. Just feel sore at times.

1) Downgrade... it will be good but my health more important as I am still relatively young.

2) Is early degeneration normal at my age? How does it affect me in 10-20 years? Any corrective or preventive measures? Drink Anlene50+?? [laugh]

As you said I will be going for further investigation next month but wanna know more. Dun wan old already, "pai ka pai chui".....

For the knee, most prolly the ACL. Must have played lots sports in ealry years

As for finger, well, little osteophytes no ssiue...but is a sign of early degen

take calcium supps and drink lots water...you dun wan to develop stones in getting your bones strong

Locking meaning sudden inability to move during the process of knee extension signifies usually a loose body inside the joint. probably a fragment of torn meniscus etc. Cant really been seen on xray.

I think I got a problem of hyper-extension of my knee and cause it to lock and unlock with cracking sound......

is our body smart enough to repair the torn parts?

no Ca =/= glucosamine.

Avoid glucosamine unless prescribed. They are usually used for those who have degeneratED joints in old folks (>50yo kind). Been in prescriptions for about 10 years already, but that's not significantly long enough for anyone to be sure if there aren't any side effects.

ACL is a common knee injury yes. You can do some drawer tests to see if you've torn your ligament.

DIY vid:

Wherelse for me I tore my PCL

The diff is that one's in front and the other's at the back so you can push your knee OUT for one and the other, IN.

Cracking sounds are normal. Just oxy/nitrogen bubbles in joints.

unfortunately however amazing the knee is, it does not repair itself.

don't go for surgeries either unless you absolutely (STRESS) absolutely (STRESS) absolutely have to have it, SEVERE KILLING-pain / sportsman.

if you have got locking in your knee (meaning inability to fully straighten or fully extend) , most likely you have a meniscus tear. Meniscus are like shock absorbers around the knee joint which can tear through rough sports or twisting knee injuries. when torn, this meniscus flip"flops in the joint space thus causing "locking". meniscus tear if not treated can cause early wear and tear in joints causing early degeneration.

i would suggest that u get a orthopaedic specialist consult to evaluate your knee to assess the need for a MRI or scope.
