Hello everyone! Am a newbie on ICE [confused] and have no idea whether this setup is any good. An installer recommended it to me after I told him I was looking for a decent (not great) setup. Any comments would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance gurus... [;)]

1) Alpine 502 DVD

2) Alpine processor

3) Rockford Fosgate T400-4 (x2)

4) Bazooka T62

5) Focal 4" Component Speaker (x2)

6) Focal 6 1/2 Midbass Speaker

Items 1, 2, 3 are pretty good.

Leave item 4 out, get a proper 12" sub.

Items 5 and 6, don't know the model so cannot comment.

Why would you need 2 sets of 4" components anyway? If he's recommending you a 3 way setup, it should be a 6.5" component (tweeter and midbass) set + a pair of 3" or 4" highmids. Total only got 6 pairs of cones, to be driven by 6 channels of the amp, leaving the last 2 channels for the sub.

For 4, my boot is too small, so installer recommended this. Thanks so much for the comments. Will ask him abt the components and why he recommended the current set-up. [:/]

I was thinking that if wanna do ICE, might as well install something better instead of keep udgrading. Also, really keen to know what a mid-end system sounds like! Must really join u guys for your ICE meetups.

Sorry for the ignorance, but I dont even know the diff between 2 way and 3 way, just that 3 way costs much more. I guess that there must be something wrong with the setup since bro Dunno also has the same comments. thanks so much for your comments. Will bounce your questions off my installer this morning! [thumbsup]

Bro, read my signature. THAT is newbie ICE, entry level of the entry level. Your proposed setup is not really newbie level liao. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Side note : I'd prefer the sound of Steg amps than RF for overall tonality & clarity. RF is powerful, but just not as clean. Good for subwoofer duty though. [:p]

[laugh] You know what is the sad thing abt me? I dont even know the difference between your setup and mine. haha...

But it's ok, will try to learn from u guys. [nod] Guess I will stick to the RF since that is what installer recommended. Dun wanna piss him off too much with my questions [sweatdrop]

Main differences are that yours is a active setup, with midbass, high-mid & tweeters all driven straight off the amps. Mine is passive, using a passive crossover unit to filter between high & low notes but using only 2 channels of the amp. So your system can play much clearer & cleaner than mine, especially with the superior headunit & processor as compared to mine.

Next difference is that your system can buy at least 3 of mine. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Hey bro , yours is a pretty gd setup !But u must consider changing to a better sub and a european amp if u r into sound quality .

U can consider full focal setup if you want audiophile quality .

Focal speakers are 100% made in france , they start off as a company building only gd speaker , so can be assure of their quality .

BTW a entry set of home audio speaker made under Focal or JM_lab can cost you thousands of US, but their car speaker are much more affordable . So i consider it a gd buy if we compare with home audio, IMHO Focal stuff also has better resale value if u will to sell it next time alot of people looking for it , i had no problem selling it the last time i upgrade to another focal speaker and sell off my 2nd hand set .

Heres a link to Focal website ,

Hope you enjoy !!!

hrmmm... judging from the recommandation from installer, its more than a entry level.

Base on that, I believe your budget is around 4k.

It would best to go around, scout different shops.

Different place different place.

Ask yourself a couple of questions.

a) Do you watch DVDs or do you listen to Music only

b) Which direction do you wanna go. SQ or SPL

c) What type of music do you usually listen to.

With 4k Budget, there's quite a number of ways to do it.

Come down for the weekly meetup and decide yourself which way do you want to go.

Dun just only walk into one shop and buy immediate. Scout for price and also reputation of the shop. Coz at the end of the day, after spending so much $$, you would not want the installer to do a farkup job...right?

price quoted is abt $6k... I went to other shops but they are not familiar with my car.

Went to Sw_ft M_tion and was quoted in excess of $10k! Some shops I went to, when I see the workers working on the car, I get worried...

This shop which I'm thinking of installing is specialising in my car and owner is friendly and down to earth. Also recommended by the car agent... My rear boot is super small, so I can only fix the bazooka. Actually, even Sw_ft M_tion recommended the bazooka to me...

Thanks for your comments. I will feedback to the installer and hear what he has to say. Hopefully will install by this week, then can meet u guys! [scholar]

Looks like it :)

For shops not to be familiar with the car, it's gotta be "exotic", from his Avatar, it's a Porsche, from a small boot only for bazooka, also sounds like it...

And yes, Swift motion is pricey but they're good in doing expensive cars and doing good job...

I know know of few other shops that have done up 911s before :) not much space to play around with...

Well... my car boot also small... [:p]

But manage to squeeze alot of stuff in [sly]

It depends on what you want and how you want it.

Shop around more...look for more ideas...search for inspirations.

Best is [gossip] . Come down for a meetup and seek advise.

The holy men of the 322 coffeehouse sure poison you more oppsss..should be ideas. [laugh]

Bear...should be down tomorrow.... but KIV..just in case last min something crops up.
