Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 20, 2008 Share September 20, 2008 Hi Has anyone here own a Qashqai? I've test drove it a couple of weeks back and pretty happy with it performance. Mean while I've test drove the CR-V 2.0, Forester & RAV 4. Of the 4 the Forester seems to have the best road feedback but the interior is really a let down. The boot space especially. The CR-V seems too heavy for its size. RAV4... nothing to shout about. Only left with one clear winner among the 4, The Qashqai! I've very suprise the Xtronic CVT is so responsive. It is much better compared to the previous CVT on the old Nissan. the interior is not as luxury as the CR-V but it is anytime better fitted than the Subaru. The dials looks good, better than the RAV4. The panoramic roof is really catchy on the premium version. Price wise, it is lower than the CR-V 87K & RAV 94K as they are highs 80sK and the forester is going at 77K. The Qashqai is going for 85K Anyone has any review of it? ↡ Advertisement
Shpesft 1st Gear September 21, 2008 Share September 21, 2008 I got my Qashqai (Fire Iron Premium) on 30th August. Being enjoying the car since getting it... The car's really quiet and the new CVT is a definite improvement over my Latio Sports. Sound-proofing wise, its an improvement from the 2.0 Sylphy which my dad drives. I did test drive the CRV and Forester before deciding on the Qashqai, the main consideration being the FC of this car. I'm averaging 11.5-12.0 with 70% highway and 30% city driving. The roof is a with everyone in the car staring at it while I'm driving (me not included of course ) The handling is almost like a car with the elevated view of a SUV. Cons: The rear seats cant be adjusted and can be a little cramped for passengers over 1.7m. The rear glass is small and an additional rear-view camera is highly recommended, if not, getting a larger rearview mirror is a must. Hope this helps! Frozebite Neutral Newbie September 21, 2008 Share September 21, 2008 I think the VW Tiguan is better competitor
Kalmath 1st Gear September 21, 2008 Share September 21, 2008 Tiguan is better if have you $30k extra to spare. For "SUV" below 90k, I think Qashqai is a good buy.
Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 21, 2008 Author Share September 21, 2008 In fact I had similar thoughts as u too! I'm currently driving a Lation Premium and like what u have said the new Xtronic CVT feels much better and also the handling of the Qashqai really feels like a car just that it is higher. When I test drove it I felt that the rear view is a bit narrow just like what u have pointed out as well. Aside to that I thought it is really decent for that price. Tiguan is out of the question, $104,000 is way off my budget and also servcing is a killer at VW compared to Nissan. One thing I notice during these test drives that I've done, I realised that only nissan comes with first 3 free servicing and the rest all need to pay from the very first servicing. Please do correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Shpesft 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Not too sure about the servicing issue but I guess finding parts for a Nissan will be cheaper than a VW... The price for the Tiguan put me off. I did test-drive the Honda CRV and the Subaru Forester: CRV had the most roomy interior but the FC and road noise in the car were a put off. The Forester's finishing was not to my expectations and the pickup was a little disappointing as compared to the CRV. In addition, after getting used to a CVT car, I couldn't really get used to driving a AT vehicle Some more reviews online from the UK version of the Qashqai: http://www.farmersguardian.com/story.asp?s...storycode=13178 http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/niss...shqai-2007.aspx
Tas0577 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Agree, nothing fantastic about the interior of Forestor even the exterior look. Dun look like a MPV or SUV or Space Wagon, it just look ugly to me. For CRV, I will prefer the previous model with the wheel at the real, this model simply looks like an ugly creature with the 2 eyes and a big mouth. For QashQai, it will be a better choice indeed. Kranjipioneer 3rd Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Tiguan is TC and a different league from Qashqai.
Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Author Share September 22, 2008 Just wondering, how u find the head unit? Are the build in speakers as good as the ones in the Latio? Gosh the ones on the Latio is really solid! the head unit is a 50W X 4 ones. Just that it is ugly ... and with tape deck some more :P Hows this one on the qashqai? any good? Is it a 6D changer as well?
Shpesft 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 The HU is factory fitted, single CD that does not play MP3s... Quite disappointed with it actually but the speakers are quite okay. I'm not really into ICE so not too much of an issue for me. I got a standalone GPS which can play MP3s and I'm using the FM transmitter function to broadcast it to the HU and car speakers. I initially wanted to consider a 2DIN integrated GPS HU but didn't really need the DVD option so this GPS suits me fine.
Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Author Share September 22, 2008 How much is does the 2DIN GPS GU cost? Is it from TCM? or need to fit it separately on our own? Now getting use to my 12DC at the back of my Latio and my wife have all her discs in it. I only have 1 ..! ha ha ... on top of that if there is no MP3 player it will be really tough though. Shpesft 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Think you got the wrong pic bro I bought a Garmin Nuvi 5000 (5.2") standalone GPS for $899 during the last Comex. Pros: 1. Plays MP3s and can broadcast via FM frequency to any HU. The MP3s can be loaded via SD card and it can read a 4 GB SD card with no problems (not too sure what's the maximum memory or SD card size it can read) 2. Has an AV input which I have connected a reverse camera. It switches to the AV input once my reverse gear is engaged. 3. Can position it on the dashboard or windscreen in whichever position suits me. 4. Can download free updates for maps from Malsingmaps forum 5. Cheaper option than a intergrated 2Din DVD HU with GPS module Cons: 1. No internal battery, so only for car use. Can't use to navigate on foot. 2. No bluetooth option in this model. There are a lot of 2Din GPS HU out there, be it China made or other brands ranging from JVC, Kenwood, Alpine to Sony... If you choose these 2Din HUs, there may be a possibility of connecting a CD changer depending on brands. Hope this helps!
Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Author Share September 22, 2008 Got it got it ..! I thought u were given an option to have a TCM Qashqai HU. Coz in UK there is one but it cost almost 400Bp. and it replaces the one that comes standard. It doesn't require to have it installed in top of the dashboard. Shpesft 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Sigh... So did I... Unfortunately, only Teana comes with a better factory fitted HU: 6CD in dash with MP3 function. Not too sure if it has the bluetooth function integrated.
Retrochink Clutched September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Although i have no supporting review but i do know that Qashqai was the SUV of the year 2007 in the UK by Topgear. I hope it helps!
Jeff3tan Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Author Share September 22, 2008 Yea ... read a few articles on that as well but just that wanted to hear from the local owners on their reviews. Qashqai being so NOT SO new in singapore as the PI already carry it for a while, it seems like it is still not a very clear choice among the readers here. After I've test drove it I was almost sold just that there are a few minor things which I'm particular about and I can't wait for TCM to provide some options to it, eg, HU could be better as the standard is really a TO. As I was looking for a replacement car, there were a few things that I now swear by which I think would really shortlist my purchase:- 1) Keyless system 2) Auto Headlights 3) Good FC With these features, I think my choice is pretty clear. Of course price is also one big factor for my purchase.
Frozebite Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Tiguan is selling at about 100k ↡ Advertisement
