Such road trips do not save much over taking a flight because the opportunity cost for the extra days required will offset the lower travel cost.

I'll recommend only if you are keen to explore the places enroute and these places are part of your vacation plan. If its strictly Pt A to B and back, just take a flight. [sly]

I just got back from my road trip to Phuket. Everything was good and safe, but rather quiet though. Saw many many shops just idling.

Dear All,

Just came back from Bukit Kayu Hitam on 15-Dec (Thai-Malay Border)

The journey was smooth but Ipoh nowadays seem to have heavy rain.

[wasted almost an hour plus in the rain driving like 50-70 km as the rain was heavy and have difficulty viewing]

So a reminder to all Brothers & Sisters, be careful as the weather are getting bad lately. Do drive carfully

Another thing if you are using GPS and is not updated, do remember to exit at N/S highway 214 and this is a shorter route to the north.

Do not use the route from KL and it will make another big round.

That's all. Wish you all have a safe journey and have fun.

After the Malaysia's border and Thailand's custom, the roadside stalls at Dannork selling fried chicken taste good provided you dare to eat.

You can see them anywhere on the road and stalls are just few steps away from one another.

Did a search... Found this. Not driving but thinking of flying over to Krabi for a short trip during Mar hols. Any advise on hotels & things to do with kids? Probably spend 3 nights there.

Yes was in Krabi last Dec. Quieter than Phuket but the beaches are comparable.

Now going Phuket later in Dec. Kids just love the beaches but we are a bit bored. Any suggestions on where to go?

Hua Hin seems interesting to me.

Will it be better to rent a car from BKK and drive down?

Previously, I visited a few islands from Rayong down south. At least, away from tourists area

Yah. I will rent a car from Bangkok international airport and drive to Hua Hin stay for 3N. Only about 220km away.

Will return the car back at BKK city.
