Assuming you are not a serious collector yet, if you want to buy paintings for investment, will be better to look for work by artist whose works have been auctioned by the reputable auction house like christi's, sotheby's or even borobudur. This will give you an idea of the trend.

Water color is not as popular as oil in general because its more difficult to preserve.

if they caught your attention in the first place, it means that they're pretty good. i certainly think they're nice. sometimes it's not about investing, but simply liking it. if it meets your wallet and fancy, treat it as a hobby first, and if it fares well with the market, then good for you

As an amatuer, 1st priority for me is to get a painting I like. Even if it does not appreciate, its still a joy to see it hanging on the wall.

2nd in line is to look for a known artist, or at least someone whose work has been exhibited at museums, better still if some museums also collect them.

Thirdly, because I don't have special facilities to keep the work in pristine condition, I'll only get media that is easy to maintain, like oil, acrylic or bronze/stainless steel sculpture.

There are quite a few gallaries that brings in works by emerging artist. PM me if you like some recommendations.

water color...for such good standard... if artist is relatively new start-up or up & coming, US$200-380/.

if oils............similar to above criteria ... easily double

collected some........H2O & oil, also arcylic paintings.

local name....ong kim seng.... china= Fu Kuo

Oil...indonesia---

arcylic.. French

had seen some very impressive Vietnam oil asking abt US$1500 to 3800 in HCM.

In Bali.... well-known artist easily US$5000-10,000.

French...... easily US$10,to 20K........

Go to Opera gallery at Takashimaya........
