I heard from my coleague that there is a fish market in Pontian which sell fresh seafood at very reasonable price. The market opens in the afternoon, 1pm if I heard it correctly. But, KNN, the coleagues are evasive when I asked for direction and always say they either follow the direction from their uncle or just sit a car and dunno the way. Searched thru Google but can't find anything on it.

Has anybody here been there before? Could you share where it is?

1) go buy Tuas Check point (easier to direct)

2) after exiting SG & JB custom, lead to highway. HERE on the high way, be ready to exit Gelang Patah

3) follow the route all the way till u reach a T- Junction, TURN LEFT

4) Again, follow the route all the wat till u reach a T-Junction(look-a-like T Junction in fact), TURN RIGHT

5) From this route onwards, its a long long route......just cruise till u passby a temple on your left, then
PREPARE to TURN LEFT at the cross junction coming ahead. (this is a long route which takes approx. 20-30mins)
- beware snakes/baby crocs/dogs MAY cross the road as well.

6) after turning left from the long route....this route will lead you to Pontian fish market....it also the same
direction to kukup. From here, just take note of the sign board will do..

drive carefully.

TO ADD: sorry abit messy

======== this route onward is all the way straight to reach pontian, no need turn left or right ==========

6) after turning left from the long route....this route will lead you to Pontian fish market....it also the same
direction to kukup. From here, just take note of the sign board will do..(takes about another 20mins to reach pontian...)

7) from here, before u reach Pontian, u will 1st passby Pekan Nanas village/town....

ADD Note:
to reach exact location(fish market), u should be driving towards kukup....which required u to TURN LEFT when u reach pontian

Landmark to turn left to Kukup= Dilapidated petrol kiosk on your right (ESSO or caltex, can't remember)

** after turning left towards Kukup, the fish market is somewhere at your RIGHT.
(a very short distance away after u turn left)

drive carefully.

Hope it helps.

You see the opposite with JBers coming to SG for fish.

Fassler at Woodlands Terrace sees a lot of J registered plates going there to get frozen salmon, cod, scallops and the like. Imported stuff in MY costs a lot and includes these "exotic fish".

Hi Karpi wave.gif , I did a cross reference check with Google Map using your instructions, it seems that the place is called Pontian Kecil, junction between Jln Pontian and Lebuhraya Skudai-Pontian (highway). Am I on the right track?

1. It should be about 1hr drive from SG, so it is not that far.
2. I heard that the fish is fresh (just out of the water) and about 50% cheaper than SG
3. It is fun to drive.
4. I never been there, so it is a challenge that I will take on.
5. M'sian petrol is cheap.

Wah..need to bring Ice box to freeze it.

I have the same thought too. Anyway, should be able to bring 5Kg of seafood in. I recently bought some sea bass from Jusco supermarket. They are still alive when I picked them. Very fresh and about S$4 each.

Even though it is 50% cheaper but you can only bring in 5Kg of seafood. I thought some seafood in Jusco are already 50% cheaper than in Singapore.

Those seabass are low-end fish, you can even get it in Shin Song.

I see, so you going over to Pontian to buy 5kg worth of high-end fish? Sheng Song? I don't shop there. Jusco is better.

I'm looking for deep sea red spotted garoupa, "chien-ming" and XXL prawns. These are premium stuff and not available at Jusco. 50% difference is not the low end $2 of $4 per kg, it is $25 of $50 per kg.

SG custom always close 1-eye, u can bring in more than 5 kg.

I see that you're a fish lover thumbsup.gif. I'm not fussy about what I eat but I must have nice soup for dinner. You are just like my younger brother, now that he lives in JB and manage a farm there, he can eat all the good food nod.gif that SG disallows us to bring in.

Yap, they don't usually conduct a detail inspection. So far, I only withnessed once that a car infront of me kena checked upside down and I saw the custom officers taken away bags and bags of seafood, packed with ice. That guy must be a fish monger tongue.gif.

Let us know your FR after your trip. Good luck and have a good catch!
