Quirky_ster Clutched March 11, 2009 Share March 11, 2009 I have been hunting for an MPV for sometime now and the journey stops in Nov 2008 when I know there's a lot of new addition coming into 2009. One of the item on the shortlist is the Peogeot 308SW. Never driven a peugeot before and would like to know from some of the experience people around here. A few pointers that I like about it. 1. It's not a full MPV. I don't like to drive a large empty cabin 80% of time. 2. Driver's driving position is still like a car. 3. Turbo engine. I believe the new car should be super/turbo charged with small capacity 4. Reliabitlity ( said to be and have won the GErman Built award! ) I wonder how is aftersales and servicing costs for these cars? Other on the top list are: 1. Touran ( all the good specs but overpriced ) 2. Zafira ( the most Value for money but too dated and the MTA ) 3. Picasso ( same engine as the 308SW but too big. the family favourite! ) ↡ Advertisement
Magnifique 2nd Gear March 11, 2009 Share March 11, 2009 308SW? is it even on our shores already? or are you talking about e 307SW? if so, no more new units on sale iirc. best you can get is 2nd hand. a few in e market. old model, 308SW might take a while to hit shore. so far hear no news about it yet. :)
Quirky_ster Clutched March 11, 2009 Author Share March 11, 2009 I am referring to the 308SW. Am in no hurry to get it, so doing all the finding out now. I'd prefer to hear from people who have driven/test driven the cars than reading reviews. Also welcome Peugeots owners on the ownership experience with this ride. Need to weigh in the considerations of the good and issues. ..
Xxer Clutched March 11, 2009 Share March 11, 2009 Pug cars are ok.. as in, maintenance is not exactly expensive, excellent handling etc. The 308SW, if it really hit our shore, shld be abt the same size as 307 (going by the normal 308), then the last row of seats wld preferably be reserved for ur kids only or frens u dont like... only complains frm 307SW owners wld be, underpowered, relatively high consumption and space
Quirky_ster Clutched March 11, 2009 Author Share March 11, 2009 OK thanks... I wonder if anyone have any insights if they have any better gearbox compared to the current 4-gear auto which kind of primitive mating it to the 1.6Turbo engine? These are the major drawbacks for me in otherwise a great choice for me! The other would be the Picasso that uses the same engine and their EGS. But I heard EGS is somewhat "cocky" from some reviews that I heard. Still prefer the 308SW... doubt there's any other Conti MPV as compact as this. Krieger 5th Gear March 11, 2009 Share March 11, 2009 (edited) Hey get a Touran, love it to bits if you are driving your family around. Spend more to make yourself happy, don't worry. Life is too short to worry too much. Money spent can be earn back. Peace Edited March 11, 2009 by Krieger
Quirky_ster Clutched March 11, 2009 Author Share March 11, 2009 Touran is on the top of the list. Price have only drop from 92K to 86K now since it's launch price back in July '08. I still have time. No hurry to change my car as yet unless VW announced high trade in package deals.. ( very unlikely of VW ), otherwise, I am keeping my trusted Opel Astra for good! Zac Neutral Newbie December 13, 2009 Share December 13, 2009 (edited) 308SW is really great. Excellent in fact. Having French build quality and a panoramic moonroof, it's perfect! But Peugeot is a little problematic at times. Servicing cost $200+. Touran: Boring interior but also well stocked... Zafira: OK but boring and old. Grand Picasso: Nice, has tray table and panoramic roof. Edited December 13, 2009 by Zac
Flameblade 1st Gear December 13, 2009 Share December 13, 2009 test drove the peugeot 308 hatchback before i got my alfa. May or may not be relevant. The 308SW is very similar to the 308 hatchback in a way. that time the 308 was going for around 83k. Goodbpoints handsome looking car. Engine is smooth and gearbox is allright. Power is not bad for such a car. No turbo lag at all and car feels responsive. Can hear the turbo whistle if u listen carefully too ! The moonroof is HUGE ! Makes the car airy when the moonroof is open Not so good points However, for the price, u dont get electric seats for both driver and passanger. The engine noise is abit loud for my liking and my family comment its very loud. The gearbox like to drag to quite high rpm with full load. >3000rpm should be bad for FC, but even at >3000rpm the engine is still very refine. The interior is erm, bad, to be honest. The interior is quite small too. The rear windscreen is tiny, can't really see the back and if u have passengers behind. U see lots of heads instead of cars. No inbuild GPS or keyless Handling of the car is good, as typical of peugeot. But seriously, if i were to get a 308, i rather get a latio sport (my previous car) for a much cheaper price. Peugeot should be quite reliable. My dad have a peugeot last time. Serve him well for more then 10 years. My 2 cents worth
