Spring stiffener

spring will proly be e last moving component to give way.....don waste ur $$$. Get a proper coilover or a lower spring if budget don allows.

Coilover and lowered springs are not for everyone. I used to have them in my ex-cars. Installed, couldn't get used to the lowered body and stiff ride, gave up and revert back to stock suspension. As I've said, stock offers the best compromise. The stiffener is a good option for those who don't want to loose too much characteristics of the stock suspension but wanted something in between.

any bro have install those spring stiffener that claim to pro-long the life span of original spring and at same time offer stiffer ride.

years ago, one mechanic ever advised me not to add on anything to the original spring as it will affect the braking reaction the car and at same time the safety handling.

have called to enquire - for suv - it is not cheap - will probably cost 240 dollars for 4 pieces of rubber...

But original spring very very difficult to "kaput" one. The one to kaput is the suspension and not the spring so dun waste money. Save the money to change the "kaput" suspension when the times come.

I think it's about six months. Because I have lowered the car and the front absorbers kept bottom up, hence I installed the stiffener. Initially, it rises the front up (3.5 fingers between wheel arch and tyre), then it became 2 fingers, just like the time after I lowered the car. I think the brand is "Jinke" as some bros here mentioned and they are from autobacs. Those who intend to install the stiffener, don't waste money on them, no use one. I am not sure about those stiffener using cable ties to secure ones.

Not sure for those that modded their suspension to lowered it... and then rely on these stiffener to uplift it.. I guess it's not being used for it's intended application....

Firstly, it's not meant to protect the spring. Never heard about spring kaput.. most likely car sell away before a spring gave way. In most cases, it's the suspension. The main intention is to protect it during those hard "slam" during hum and also to provide additional support during hard cornering.. place it with stock setup, it's meant to help the suspension system.

It's alright to agree to disagree. To me this one is money well spent.. installed in our Opel Vectra GTS which needed suspension change after 2years... mainly due to the fact that we drive our cars hard and always full of ppl or heavy with things... then our mechanic suggest us to installed this and then the suspension feels good 2 years after that until we sell off the car... that's how we are convinced.

Next, a friend installed this in his Wish and are happy that it helped it's weakened suspension to stay up and delayed the need to changed it..

Then install in my Opel Astra, it makes the spring feel new again even after 4 years now.. and then on my brother's Opel Corsa Sports last year, even after 30K of mileage, it feels new and then when we bought our OPC Roomster this year, the first thing we did is to install this stiffener... so that our suspension can last longer and protect against bad humps...

That's what we believe it'll do... your experience may be different and it's ok... we don't earn comms from this.. but save money on suspension.. and glad we did it

Cheers!

Yup,different ppl might agree and disagree..to me had this retainer installed for quite sometime and further more with lowered spring on my Wish..as main purpose like what u say protect from bumps and full load..to me it does protect my suspension ..it don seem to increase much of height after installing..

Cheers..

I got it from my workshop in Ubi... not too sure his new address.. anyway.. he'll be too busy to do this... not his main line ... Alfa's specialist ...

The brand name is Jinke. Box say Made in Germany.. though I wonder why German use a name like Jinke... Not sure what color it comes with now.. we got yellow and red ones.. thought some ppl got it from Autobacs...

Anyway found the distributor for it and recently I got it from this chap...

Terminal 2 International (Singapore)

(Subsidary of Trusty Resources)

And hell NO!... i don't get comms for this... hate it when some ppl conclude to this eventually...

Just sharing ,that not to stir how good or not..ppl agree and disagree..there's a groove for the spring..thats why u need to get the correct size from A to F..if not correct the retainer is either loose or unflexible..this will defeat the purpose..the retainer with correct size will just slide through with a bit greese..

how much for one set? this may be the cost effective solution for my rear suspension which is always rubbing the fenders...setting the shocks to the max hardness didnt help... [:(]

check it out at autobachs.. me not so sure how much..

One set is 2 piece... must find out with installation how much..

I typically just pay and forget it... cannot think so much about how much paid.. focus more on the enjoyment....

Supersonic

Springs are designed to take the weight equally across it's entire length.

Now you put something like a stiffener in between.

It prevents compression where it's put, and where do the rest of the weight distribution go to?

It goes to the other part of the spring that does not have this stiffener.

Think about it, before going to add anything blindly.

Been using this for more than 2 years now.

most importantly, it provides extra impact cushioning for the suspension... especially those sudden hump that are higher than expected or poorly design hump...

It help to stiffen the car without compromising comfort. It's not just rubber .. it's actually steel belted and coated with the rubber.

Sure dun waste money on this.. for me.. I save in changing my suspension... it's been 4.5 years.. still using stock suspension and car as stable as day 1.. and I negotiate 90 degrees bends hard every single day and drive through don't know how many humps each day at normal speed ( not slowing down ).

just to share my experience...

aware i'm replying to aan almost 2 yr-old thread.

jus sharin - recently installed at e-xxv such cushions, red ones, dunno wat brand, at both front n rear of car for $120.

i wont say the effects r "magical", but at the very least there is a quieter absorption of shock; at least no "clocking" sound at near extreme bounce, which i think is "quietly" absorbed by these cushions.

n like wat some said, be sure to use correct size; the spring pitch distance must be matched rather than the spring diameter, or else if the cushion cannot clip both its top n bottom onto e spring, chances r it may not sit properly n function as desired.

Well, that would depend on whether it's a even-rate spring or a progressive spring.

Here's a fact, with the current fully loaded car weight, you can never fully compress a

spring(that's coil to coil contact). The amount of pressure required to be exerted to

fully compress a car spring is tremendous. Not to mention that you have 4 of these

on your car.

If you have a progressive spring, a stiffener is not required as the spring forces are

as what the name suggests, progressive. Meaning you would have the ease of comfort

on the end areas of the spring and a more aggressive setting when the middle

portion kicks in.

The stiffener is good in one instance, original soft factory supplied even-rate springs.

This would in effect, transform the even-rate springs into partial progressive springs,

hence the many testimonials on the wow factor on this item.

I say, for the $120x2, top up abit more and get a good set of progressives.

Neutral Newbie

Hi guys, just 2 share my input on the stiffner issue. I had recently fixed it on my 06 verna. as u guys knw verna suspension is very soft but after i had installed the stiffner it feels better abit but NOT tat big of a difference but still there's a diff. got it done @ JB for RM100 for all 4 which I think is a good deal. Just my 2cents :)

Hi Guys,

I just did mine in JB but after that on the way home... I keep hearing this 'tak tak' sound from passenger side.

Yesterday night went to have a good look at the stiffeners.

Realised the stiffeners on driver side are like in the middle of the spring. while the one at the passenger side is all the way up near the wheel arc and top of the springs...

is that ok or is that why there is this sound?

must the 2 stiffeners be aligned?

Thanks :)
