Whyeme Clutched April 28, 2009 Author Share April 28, 2009 "worth" is very subjective. if it makes you happy or suits your need and it's affordable, why not? no need to bother what other think about what's it worth. as you said, it's a lifelong dream, nothing should stop you if it's within reach. agreed totally mate! ↡ Advertisement

Whyeme Clutched April 28, 2009 Author Share April 28, 2009 (edited) people can hear your car before seeing it...hows that! haha...reminds me of the time when i visited the air base...heard the F16 fighter jet at least 5 seconds before catching a fleeting glance of it screaming across my face btw stock rex wif stock exhaust should not be so loud right? the rumbling ones are those with exhaust pipes the diameter of a honeydew melon ya? DarkSide Neutral Newbie April 28, 2009 Share April 28, 2009 any crucial things to watch out for when viewing/test driving a used wrx auto? btw, is there a code name for the version of rex i posted at the beginning? thks I'm no expert but thru some trial and error myself... I believe the weak point of the auto rex is the conservative 4sp gearbox... At least, thats wat i'm always weary about..... Jerkiness is not a good sign... Certain mods which increases the hp may not seat well with the auto box. The auto box itself is not exactly manual override system...it will change itself despite on "manual" on reaching redline... So that has to be properly taken care of from day one... Take it thru a test drive and see how it feels...around fast bends and a coupla humps... Suspension and wheel bearings are things to look at.... If the car can be lifted would be best to check out from underneath... Exhaust system, from manifold to muffler...to look for exhaust bolt movement signs... Engine bay for signs of intercooler upgrade,hosing,piping... Let's put it this way,if it's stock, there should be no bolt movement... Everything is as per se... Service history is equally important. Generally we dont send back to MI as reputable and specialise aftermarket workshops like ST Powered,Garage R,Mcwell V does a better job and using better stuff for servicing.... Key thing is that if it has been stock from day one, it can be considered but if it has been demodded to stock, better not touch it... I'm sure u are aware of this ... Hope that helps.... Cheers! Daniu85 Clutched April 28, 2009 Share April 28, 2009 Just buy!! You only live once!! If you care about FC, better buy a cow because they eat only grass!! haha how come it's cow and not horse if it's eat only grass? lolx..
Amortifiedpenguin Clutched April 28, 2009 Share April 28, 2009 haha how come it's cow and not horse if it's eat only grass? lolx.. well a cow can give you milk. but you cant bring the horse out on the road. i think tp will summon you. imagine a horse on CTE during peak hours. 1hp, 100km/kg of grass, top speed 50km/h, 0-50km/h- 1.5s, 0-100km/h- horse died. Rb26dett Clutched April 29, 2009 Share April 29, 2009 (edited) if you like it , just buy . seek too much advise or opinion later surely all sorts of rubbish comes out. btw , the auto rex transmission is pretty ok.quite afew owners running 18G turbos on it and no issues so far holding the torque . basically there are almost close to none fully stock rex running around.so basic things like exhaust , intake blablabla still can accept 1. those really headache ones are engine mods which eventually cause piston slapping ,consume excessive engine oil problems. before purchase , ask to send to your fav/trusted workshop to have the car checked before signing anything. and lastly , congrats to you, soon to be AT rex owner. Its a pretty good car, imho. Comes with JDM STI interior n seats (w/o the STI emblem, of cse), cool optitron, climate control, rear wiper, factory HIDs and a robust EJ20 series engine block. A simple brakes upgrades to STI brembos are a MUST ( the stock 4p2p does'nt feel reassuring, @ least to me), upgrade exhaust (limited to HKS Legamax, Apexi N1 and FGK Legalis R, all axleback mufflers), a good CAI (Perrin, APS, Process West) and a set of coilovers and u r all set. Plenty of power upgrades available. FC hovers around high 7s to low 8s km/l for m y style of driving (60/40 highway/city). However, be prepared for very expensive insurance premiums and maintenance. Thats all i can think of.
