Read the Cars&Stars and Nissan posting in this forum.

Seems like customers can state the COE price when buying cars now from these two company.

I vagely remember Hyundai also had this scheme few years back.

The nissan deal is especially interesting as it will Refund the deposit should the COE bidding be unsuccessful. [thumbsup][thumbsup]

This will have the effect to drive down the COE price for sure.

If Toyota can implement this system, then it might just cause COE to falls, as BM is the bigger player.

Hi, thanks for pointing this out.

Just to add on, for our company as well, we will also do a complete refund of the deposit if we fail to secure a COE at the customer's stated price after the agreed number of bids.

[* Even though in principle, the COE open bidding system is a transparent system that lets the consumer decide how much a COE should cost, but like what LeePee said, the bidding is sort of monopolised by the few big authorised agents (BM, KM, C&C etc) that bid on behalf of their customers, but at the discretion of the company. In a bid to fulfil orders and outdo each other, the companies themselves may be engaging in a war that ultimately drives up the COE price. For customers who have already booked with them, it will be good since they will stand to gain from a higher COE. But this will translate to higher prices for the new buyers.]

So we PIs are like a collective of buyers (who are still the minority), we are also subjected to the fluctuations in COE brought about by the competition between the big boys and the only way to give a fair and honest deal to our customers is to let the wise customer decide how much to pay for COE.

At least that is the way it should be until the big boys decide to level the playong field. -_-

Cheers!
