b-------t race....I dunno why they make this kind of race. Run out idea or desperate for tourist money?

Take off usually create drag for the plane since flaps are lowered. If straight line without flaps this GT3 no chances to win. 747 is not built for speed.

The only fair race if conducted like between Y2k bike (jet powered bike) and fighter jet.

This race is like trying to con a kid to watch it.....

Even from the start, anyone would have known that the 747 would lose. I mean it is a commercial/cargo plane for godsake. Perhaps they should have race the 747 with a SBS Bus for fairness.

But if they race that Porsche with a fighter plane, say a F15, or even a F14 that could do a short takeoff from a carrier, then it's a different story.

Many years ago, they race a Eurofighter 2000 and Veyron and the Veyron had no chance.

Any Tom,Dick or Harry would know that any superfast car can beat the 747 on a 1.7km strech.Try another 1 km more you will know win..Maybe a A319/320 or even Boeing 737 can do the job

i guess this race is probably just for plain fun and a warmup to the F1 festivities

although the results were probably predictable, (to us anyway), it was still really great fun being there and i think its pretty cool that Changi Airport actually dares to do something like this.

here's some of the pics i took whilst there... (excuse the quality of the shots, i'm still trying to figure out the camera)

Reached airport 1130am

Waste of time....should have race with the F5 or F16!!!! Common..747 cargo freighter???? [shakehead]

Even stock WRX could also race with the 747..no big deal... [lipsrsealed]

stock wrx? [thumbsdown]

do you know how much this porsche won?

it won by 0.4sec only.most of the spectators and even the drivers of both the jet and car didn't even know who won initially as it was too close.

the stock wrx can only win if its a 100m race. [sleeping]

Flaps up racing is impossible, the plane will run out of runway and still can't take off. yes you are right B747 is not built for speed, somemore this is a B742, not the newer ones.

they should perhaps try with the B773ER to race it. GE115 engine powering a lighter plane. Or even the 772, with Rolls Royce Trent 800 engines powering a 140ton plane, think still got better chance than the 742
