Madmax67 2nd Gear October 12, 2017 Share October 12, 2017 you got me wronged, i mean i will travel north every few months hence a TPMS is a good investment. if i could ask more, is steelmate a trusted brand to go for? i think your model is TP-77 I'm quite keen in TP-S3E. these external sensors, do they require battery? The usual watch type? is removing them a chore? I'm thinking of installing them for local use, when heading north, i will switch to another ride. I'm fine with that, at least a warning to tell me i got a leak or puncture will really helps. I recalled i got a burst in my rear tire when heading up to Malacca.. lucky, i still manage to pull the car to road side. Mine is not from Steelmate. I find Steelmate brand a bit expensive. So, I bought mine from Amazon and shipped via ezBuy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073PW986P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Someone bought a similar one from Aliexpress. I supposed there are many OEMS. You can also find them on ezBuy. ↡ Advertisement

Solar powered with 4 internal sensors which requires removing the tyres to install. But this is the most accurate and do not have to worry about people stealing the external sensors. Heard some tyre shops charge $20 to help you remove the tyres and install. I did it FOC when changing tyres. Only need to charge once via USB (PC) the first time I received it. Subsequently powered solely by solar. No need to run cables. Apparently the two top selling TPMS brands in China are steelmate (known as 铁将军) and victon (this). Kklee 6th Gear October 12, 2017 Share October 12, 2017 Do take into consideration that external sensors requires taller shrader valves else it will hit against the rim. That's why I installed internal sensors. I still have a set of MIC external sensors.

gphong Clutched November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 Hi, can I just check if it is better for wheel balancing to be done with the tpms on? I refer to the external type.
Mercury1 Turbocharged November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 Hi, can I just check if it is better for wheel balancing to be done with the tpms on? I refer to the external type. Yes of course, the weight is minuscule but spinning at 100s of round a min will definitely cause some slight imbalance to the wheel.

shiyofc 1st Gear November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 I m curious... So what happen when u do tyres rotating? Need to remove the internal sensors again and install to the correct tire? According to the seller of the TPMS I bought, the internal sensors will auto correct itself after tyre rotation. So there is no extra work invovled. However, in my case, as my front and rear rims have different offsets, I will be swopping just the tyres and not rims + tyres. The tyre shop I went to quoted me $40 to swop just the tyres. Effectively $10 per tyre - take out the rim, remove the tyre, swop the tyre and install back with the rim.

As far as i know, once you rotate your tyres , you need to calibrate them .
Kb27 Supersonic November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Why the need to rotate tyres ? Bcuz it's recommended ? What's it supposed to do ? When I was driving my van, I change tyres in 2s, not 4s. It's either front or back. I never rotate them. They always wear out evenly. The only time they wear unevenly is when the front toe is out of spec. Keep the front alignment correct and there's no uneven wear, and no need for tyre rotation.

Mercury1 Turbocharged November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Those TPMS use actual air pressure of the car to calculate, the only sensor that uses rotation is the non individual ones that usually come with the conti cars (damn inaccurate) if your using individual tpms there is not need to rotate or anything. Brand is Victon. https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.6.327159467YfrWy&id=45284003989&cm_id=140105335569ed55e27b&abbucket=2&skuId=3242546717800 Pick the one that says internal sensors.
