Dental implant

Hi peeps

I am also keen to do dental implant and was told I do not have bone, thus may need bone grafting. Anyone done that?

Any contact to share? Trustworthy dental surgeon?

Thanks much

Well, don't go and see a general practitioner dentist for your case.   Look up a few orthodontists and shop around.

Thank you. U mean the dental surgeon right?

I need dental implant as well as bone grafting

My layman understanding is that you will need bone to do a dental implant. If you have recently removed your tooth, likely there will be bone left so no bone grafting required. However, if you have removed your tooth quite sometime back then likely the bone would have been lost so bone grafting IS required.

There could be other reasons why you don't have bone as well but I'm not sure on this.

No problem la. That I know, if one lost the tooth for a period of time then bone grafting is required. It is also stated in the website.. even my dentist told me.

It is very clear.. I just would like to know anyone has gone for that and share their experience.

Sorry won't be able to share with you as I've not done this but I do know the whole process will take more than half a year at least and involves 3-4 trips to the dentist, not to mention the huge costs involved. I ever remarked that like all things, cost may come down eventually as technology improves but dentist said no and in fact price will increase with inflation and so far seems they are right.

PS. I lost 2 molar teeth (right at the back of my upper jaw due to gum issues). Was recommended dental implant but I baulked at the cost and didn't do it. Dentures I don't like.

PM for contact in Clementi area. I have gone through double implant with extensive bone graft. Cost is $7,000 but partially can claim from Medisave. Total duration was 4 months and requires 4 visits to dentist.

My situation was serious case as due to underground infection, the bone was eroded and beneath gum had turned septic. Hence needed to extract 2 teeth before doing the implant and treat with antibiotics. It took 3 months since planting for the bone graft to strengthen enough around the screws for the new tooth to be affixed

The dentist is an implant specialist and the clinic is cheapest to do at after asking around. You can also do in Malacca which is cheaper, but remember you have to make 4 trips up there.

Feel free to PM if you have more questions on implants. I can answer from patient's perspective.

Don't consider going to govt hospital for implants. Its not cheaper and definitely not any better than private clinics.

Why put up with months of waiting to see the dentist and bad treatment from them.

Yes, absolutely agree.

Govt hospital price is as same as private and need to wait for months to get appt

I had been to smile central clinic at TPY branch. Done with my implant..

After consulting with you folk here, the dentist I visited charge me 4.5k for dental implant which will took around half year to complete.

However, after x-ray (charged me $140), he told my that I have not enough bone. Sinus augmentation (aka add bone) is required. Total cost turn out to be twice the amount and took 1 year to complete instead :a-confused: . Sinus augmentation required another specialist to perform such procedure and it seem to me more complicated than implant due to more day of MC will be given.

With this, I decided to call it off  [sweatdrop]

I didn't get mine done due to the price n many visits required. Not sure if I would live to regret this cos I had bone left then so more straight forward. Now if I want to do it, the bone likely gone after so long, so need to pay more and even more time required!

Considering the mini implants but so far no one has actually vouched for it except one forumer n hearing so much that it's not as strong so worry become penny wise, pound foolish!! Haiz.......

You try to seek 2nd advice? Dont go to general dentist, go to the specialist, surgeon specialise in implant and bone grafting etc

I sought 2nd advice, and price is much cheaper and I already got it done.. no bone grafting required even thou the 1st dentist told me no more bone.. thus bone grafting required... wrong info...

The specialist I visited told me he has done more than 200 such operation. less than 1% has failed due to complication (own bone cant fuse with new bone but 2nd try will success). X-ray already show it is hollow. If without bone grafting, the new teeth will be weak.

bridging required to sacrifice 2 neighbouring good teeth. No way I am going to file away my good teeth, especially one is a molar teeth.
