SINGAPORE : An Indian rojak stall that was linked to a food poisoning outbreak last year was poorly maintained.

This is according to a Senior Public Health Officer from the Health Ministry, Abdul Rahman Osman, who inspected the Rojak Geylang Serai stall on April 4 last year.

In a coroner's inquiry on Tuesday, the court heard how the stall was dirty with food stains and showed signs of cockroach infestation.

The Ministry also found that bacteria - indicative of poor sanitary conditions - were found on a chopping board used to cut food items in the stall.

One of the bacteria- staphylococcus aureus - is commonly found on human skin, while the other - faecal coliform - indicates faecal cross contamination.

However, the licensee of the stall, Sheik Alauddin Mohideen, said that his outlet was cleaned with soap and water every day after closing time.

He added that his staff wear gloves when they handle cooked food.

Two women died after eating rojak bought from the outlet last year - 57-year-old Aminah Samijo, who died on April 6; and 59-year-old Norani Kassim, who died on April 8.

The hearing resumes on Thursday. - CNA/ms

got leh...at least my place here in Balestier does...but they usually reuse the plastic gloves...as with other stalls to cut cost...

wat I was puzzled is that why have faecal matters on the chopping board??

what about those stalls that use chopping board too eg. roast meat, kwey chap, chicken rice...... [:/]

If the stall got buy insurance, usually insurance will do the compensation, but there'll sure be a court case first should the amount is deem "unreasonable", which is always the case to the insurance companies here.

Supercharged

when u go buy indian food esp prata or rojak, ALWAYS see whether the guy got wear ring on left hand.

the problem is they like to wash backside after passing bowels... and some sh^t will still get stuck at the ring, even after they wash hands with soap....

so when they do prata or handle food, some sh^t bacteria gets passed down.

even if wear gloves, the bacteria will still passed down.
