ATF FLUSHING - is it necessary???

Honestly, when I check my ATF, my car was not heated up. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can advise here. To me, important for ATF is the colour change and the last fluid change.

I check my engine oil dipstick, air filter, brake fluid, power steering fluid, undercarriage, tyre pressure etc when the car is stationary and engine not switched on.

=============

U look at the dipstick for ATF.

There r 2 readings. "HOT" & COOL".

Cool is not very accurate as when ATF is cool when u just top-up.

The more accurate reading is "HOT" when it is at operating temp.

Overfilling the ATF can b just as bad as underfilling.

Please check your handbook as most cars need to check ATF while engine is running & gear in P.

It is not stated in my handbook or manual. Will check with my mechanic at the next servicing.

Anyone knows wats the price of flushing out ATF? But bring my own oil.

==============

Most places used to charge $50 for the use of the machine & labour.

Now I not sure cos long time I never flush.

U can check with places like KATC or Stamford as they used to have the ATF flushing machine.

But now I think many places also have but b careful & make sure the guy operating it knows how to use it. Last time KANGS did for me, the idiot newbie did it wrong & he overfilled by way too much & after I left 10 mins later, a pipe burst & I had ATF sprayed all over my engine bay.

Best is to check the level as soon as he finishes the flush to b safe.

What type of ATF r u using?

If the readouts is not there, you can install oil temp sensor to get the readings

so the blitz rvit shows atf temp directly from the obd for only toyota models? Coz i dont recall devices able to read atf temp for nissan cars from obd. Water temp yes, volt too, no auto gearbox temp...are additional sensors required to get the atf temp readouts? Tks

No need to import atf. Just use toyota type IV atf. Its made fr our autobox. Cheap n good. Full change abt 7lit.

If u drop pan dun forget to change atf filter n gasket fr pan.

Type IV is mineral. U wan synthetic get rp at abt $16/qt. U need abt 7qt.

I just drain abt 3lit every 20k km n fill with type IV. My atf very clean n red.

So far i never drop pan. If i feel gearbox sluggish then i wil drop pan n change filter.

When i just bought my optra 2nd hand i drain n fill atf every 10-20k km till i see colour very nice just like fresh atf.

Now i will drain n fill every 20-30k km so its always fresh. I dun hv any problems wh my autobox.

No whining noise n gearchange very smooth.

Last time i fill rp synthetic atf drain every 40k km but still damm smooth. But its too ex so i use type IV but drain a bit more often.

Still good enough.

Not advicable to flash ATF using the machine.

As this machines are been used for many other cars, and the dirt in the machine filter would get into our gearbox.

Best is to drain off ATF every 20K or 40K and top up with new ATF.

I did flashing for my CRV before, and notice some jerkering during gear change. Now on my Lexus, with 280KM done, never done flashing before, only drain and top up with new oil.

just my 2 cents

cheers

Dunno if prob is due to flushing machine filter dirty or ty use wrong or low quality atf.

I did flushing at stamford n soon after my autobox hv problem. Take very long to engage reverse. I see e atf ty use like never seen b4.

After that i need to overhaul autobox cost me abt $2k. I did flushing at other places n no prob when ty use good atf like rp(i bring my own) or castorl dexron atf.

Now i just do regular drain n fill when i see e atf colour turning brown. So far no problem. Now i just use toyota type IV cos its suited fr my optra autobox.

If i feel rich i wil use rp fr very smooth shift n power.
