Hi All,

I planning my 1st visit to Kuantan this June school holiday. I will like expert and frequent visitor to Kuantan for the above 2 hotel choice, which is better in term of:

1) Access to seafood restuarant or some famous local food? Any good seafood restuarant to recommend (with address)

2) Visit to Kuantan town

3) Hotel facilities for children (8 & 10yrs old)

4) Hotel pools and beach quality

5) Quality of hotel

All suggestion and advice are weclome as this is my 1st visit to the east coast. :D:D

Bukit Gambang Water Park

Is about 45mins-1hr from kuantan town... can spend a day there if you want...... not too bad a place..... went once.

i can't advise you on hotels as i stay at my in-laws place when i am in kuantan

This place received so many negative comments on the web, be it from the locals or overseas visitors. So much so that I decided to give it a miss on my last trip to Kuantan [:/] .

Regards,

I stayed at Hyatt a couple of times and once at Swiss Garden.

At Hyatt, you can just walk to the public park, where there's some seafood. Take the chinese operated one is better. Cheap and good. You don't need to drive and park there.

While staying at Swiss Garden, Beserah Beach, I went to the so-call "famous" Pak-Su restaurant. It was as expensive as the seafood in SG and not worth paying. The one near to Hyatt (Teluk Chempedak beach) is much cheaper and good enough. There's also Macdonald in case you crave for cheap food. :D

Hyatt is much nearer to the town.

Facilities wise I didn't pay too much attention, but both are equally acceptable.

Hyatt is of coz more expensive.

If I were to go back again, I would most likely choose Hyatt.

depends what you looking for.... if just some water fun then it is ok..... drinks and hotdogs are reasonabley priced too...

accomdation wise i do not know as i did not stay there but it seems deserted though the park was quite crowded...

Thanks for all the feedback. Seem like I will chose Swiss Garden.

How about Club Med Charating? Anyone stay there before? I think price is quite steep right?

How about any advise on seafood restuarant? (with address if possible)

Should you decide to bring forward your holiday to end May, I have a 1 X Swiss Garden deluxe room voucher (include breakfast for 2) for sale at discounted prices (~RM188 or best offer). The same room/package is being offered at wotif.com and hotel Swiss Garden's website for RM288 nett. As mentioned, I prefer Hyatt, hence my decision to sell the voucher. Note voucher is fully transferable but will expiry by end May 2010.

All MCF bros are welcome to PM me their best offer.

if u r drivin' deh & dun mind the distance - swiss garden is teh choice cos 3 traffic lites from the hotel (nr town) & u will spot yr choices of seafood rests, durian stalls, satays etc.

oso, along the same way, u can visit the batik shop, fisherman village weh u can 'tah pao' home - good price!

kfc is oso around the corne.

hyatt - slightly upclass in style but too commercialized i feel . . . .

its worth that 4hrs+ trip (if u travel in off-peak hours)

Haha... one man's meat is another man's poison. I find Swiss Garden to be too "commercialised", it is like a carnival when occupancy rate is high (and it is usually packed due to its very competitive pricing). Hyatt offers more peace and tranquility, it still retains that resort feel although I must say service, or the lack of it, is not of Hyatt's standard.

These days, I prefer to go a little north for the clearer water and/or cheaper resort. But then, not much shopping to do at night as you move north, till you hit Kuala Terenganu.

u r not wrong - i belief swiss garden is become like what u said these days

i will oso go further nof like what u say - to explore more serenity towards quieter/undistubed beaches....

My last trip to Swiss Garden Kuantan was pretty bad, occupany rate was 100% and service was just not up to scratch. Had to wait 20 mins for my breakfast and there were little food left on the buffet table. The pool was so crowded I could hardly swim.

Haven't been to Hyatt Kuantan for a year but my last stay there was pretty good, marred only by a check-in that took forever. In terms of convenience, Hyatt is better, loads of cheap and good food next door and about 5-10 minutes drive to the 2 malls in town. Swiss Garden is however value for money.

Agree, it would be great if we could have Kijal/Kuantan beaches in Desaru area, I would be heading there more often.
