A FULL-TIME national serviceman, one of four victims of a series of knife attacks in Kallang on Sunday, lay bleeding by the Pan-Island Expressway for seven hours before he was spotted.

Half his left hand, along with four fingers had been hacked off, and he had deep cuts to his neck, face and abdomen; a part of his scalp had been sliced open.

But at least Mr Ang Jun Heng, 19, was alive. Of the remaining three victims of the still-unknown slasher or slashers, one is dead, and the other two, like Mr Ang, are in intensive care at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The police said yesterday that they had yet to make an arrest. They declined to comment when asked whether the attacks were the work of one person or several, nor would they confirm whether or not the attacks were related.

All the police spokesman would say was that investigations were ongoing and no possibilities had been ruled out.

The four victims appear not to have known each other. Aside from Mr Ang, the other three, including the dead man, are Indian nationals aged between 24 and 44. Here on work permits, they live and work in different places.

I will be very careful when I am walking around town...

IN THE wake of a spate of slashings at Kallang over the weekend, another man was fatally stabbed yesterday evening at PoMo, along Selegie Road.

Mr Sitoh Woon Chee, 59, was leaving for home after work at about 6.45pm when he was knifed to death. He was a part-time employee of Singapore Pools, whose job was to announce lottery results.

Mr Sitoh's wife, visibly distraught and helped by a group of people, arrived at the scene at about 9pm. She was later taken into the Pools office, accompanied by a group of relatives.

A company spokesman said the police were notified shortly after the incident.

The Straits Times understands that the attacker had tried to escape but was eventually caught by the police. Police are still investigating the case.

It is also not clear if the incident is related to the slashings at Kallang, which left one dead and three injured.

Actually there's more report in the papers, what we see here are just a portion. There's a map and time line on where the individual man was attacked around the Kallang area.

According to the 19yo mother, her son told her that there were more dan one attacker and they were speaking in what seems to be in Thai.

more likely gangland related violence? with the increase in underground commercial activities in geylang/ serangoon due to the immigrants, there could be clashes in interest between various vested groups. Cannot see how the Singpaore Pools fella is involved though.

Umm...I thought slashing/stabbing/fighting between individuals should be civil suit?

How come police are involved?

I am confused with the law here.

In this sort of scenario, only voluntarily causing hurt under Sec 323 requires a magistrate to initiate police investigations. Voluntarily causing grievious hurt, affray, etc are all seizable offences which the police can investigate into without a magistrate initiating it.

Just for general knowledge. Any non-seizable offence which a police officer witnesses becomes seizable.

Thais hanging out at the nearby Kallang Riverside Park are a common sight. Some don't work here; drive all the way here in their vans or double-cab pickups.
