hi. any mazda 2 SP users or experienced pple here can tell me more about it?

currently my friend is driving mazda 2 SP and he is telling me his fuel efficiency is not bad at all. rough gauge about 12km/l ? however another mechanic friend tells me not to touch mazda 2 and he says the fuel efficiency is not good.

so i need to get more feedback here. because i think the general conception is that "mazda" is very "eat oil". so i need more insights. also would like to know about the maintanence and spare parts. is it troublesome or expensive?

the price of the 2nd hand mazda 2 SP for a 3-4yrs old car is very attractive for me and deciding if it will be money well spent.

(currently my first choice is a 3-4yrs old swift 1.5A as some of u might have seen my previous posts but it costs a few K more)

sry if i appear to be troublesome wanting to get info on this on that, cuz i will want to have my money well-spent on something that will accompany 6years down the road.

THANKS~!

used to own a mazda 2sp before

Duration of ownership : 3.5 years

Fuel Consumption : 11 km per litre avg (50% HW and City)

Handling : Not bad, quite nimble, quite alot of road feel.

Maintenance wise during 3.5 years of ownership at 150,000 km :

changed tyres 3 times,

change driver side engine mounts at 40,000km (FOC by MM),

changed shocks at 100,000km (due to wear and tear),

changed engine mounts (all 3) at 130,000 km

Change brake pads at 80,000km (front and back)

and front pads at 130,000km

change rotors at 60,000km (by MM, FOC)

Change ATF oil at every 30,000km (usual maintenance)

change engine oil at every 10,000km (usual maintenance)

Aftermarket parts : other than AUTOEXE parts, there are very very few items for Mazda 2sp so you can save abit of that money....

Summary : If you are looking for a fun car to drive, m2sp is worth considering. if u are quite concerned on fuel consumption, forget this ride. my feel for this m2sp is that its engine is very rough (but quite robust)...for rough use, yes...

For comfort, nope...

Fuel economy, dont expect too much...

Just collected my Mazda 2 few weeks ago, FC wise is about 11~12.5Km/L(have not went for my first 5K maintenance yet, still on mineral oil). As for the driving, it is responsive and nimble. Cornering is smooth. As for power wise, do not expect much from Mz2. It's a fun car to drive. As for maintanence and spare parts, sorry not able to advise yet.

To find out more, you can go to Mazda club website to find out more. In there, you should be able find out more.

u will know what is being mentioned there...

so u just listen and judge for urself lah....

whats the difference btwn the model before SP and SP itself? the only difference i see so far are the shape of the headlamps?

Differences between Pre-fl and SP :

Rectangular vs round foglamps

Different front and rear bumper

headlights

bonnet difference (mainly due to different headlight and bumper design)

beige interior vs black interior

4AT with OD button vs 4AT Sportshift with + - semi-auto

it was one of the cars i looked at previously but went for a vios 06 instead. i think mz2 sp is a pretty good car. looks well built. vios 06 AT i got ard 14-15km/l.

mz2 sp i didnt haf the chance to test but i think if the fc is said to be ard 12km/l it should be okay. worth a try!

go for mz2 sp if u really wanan buy

looks newer, face lift design, got tiptronic gear...

The fuel consumption, for my case, is slightly on the high side.

3/4 tank, approx 420 to 450km

1/4 tank can pump in 20 to 23 litres to the brim (which is JB friendly)... :)

but its a fun car to drive...

handling is good...

Hi there, sorry to dig up a 1 year old thread.

We have a 2008 M2SP with 80K. Does anyone know if the aircon belts/acc belt needs to be changed? What about the radiator thermostat?

Is there a mazda forum locally? I've not been able to search for it successfully.

Thanks for everyone's help!

THANKS~!

My previous ride.

Pros :

- Eager to rev and torquey

- Gives a rather sporty engine sound

- Good and useful boot space/layout compared to other small hatch

- Quite sporty looking

Cos :

- Quite thirsty of a small car, average 11km/l, can get up to 13km/l at times

- Noisy aircon

- Sound insulation not as good

Other than the usual wear and tear, there are no major issue with the car at all.

Just regular oil change and ATF change every 40k for me. Engine flush at 50k.

Trustworthy MIJ car, basically a car that should be able to last for the entire 10 years.
