Recently bought a 2nd hand Mallory ignition coil from another MCFer for $50.

Good stuff.... My low end performance improved by quite a margin. Previously, my car will feel very sluggish @ 40KM/H on 4th gear. Now no problem. I can shift earlier now.

Why waste $$$ on all those expensive VS stuff when a cheap coil will be able to do the same?

This depends on the age/mileage of your car. Changing to a new coil from an old and worn out one of course will give an impression that performance had been enhanced.

Btw not all type of cars use a single core type ignition coil like yours. My car's engine has individual ignition coils for each spark plug.

Yar, new cars today all use distributorless ignition systems. This means one coil for each plug.

A more powerful coil will allow you to have a wider spark gap. Hence, more power.

Because in your invisible car, anything can give you +50hp for $0.50.
