think she trying to say if we don't pay the transport companies well enough, they will lose shareholders, then cannot provide public transport, then we all got to walk around the island.

What she's saying is, don't look at one particular trip. Must look at all your trips.

One trip fare might go up, the other 5 may go down, so you pay less overall.

Which, is true, I guess. Someone needs to do some proper documentation.

She is saying. 1/3 ppl pay more while 2/3 ppl pay less. so 2/3 ppl paying less because they travel further while 1/3 ppl paying more because they are travelling shorter [confused]

i gave up on public transport liao

it is too expensive

let say 4 of my firends and myself take one mrt journey (1 stop only) to have lunch, we will incur $0.75*2*5= [hur] $7.50 [hur]

if we drive out, it would be $0.50 diesel, $2 parking = [sunny] $2.50 [sunny]

I heard the news saying something yesterday...then I ask myself...while we are "really" saving on the fares...is the transportation company shaving off their overhead at the same time?? if they could...we probably won't have fare rise in the past years...so likely conclusion is no..so if the transport company cannot reduce overhead cost while money collected from fare went down....isn't it implying that profit margin will be down....then we will hear pple saying that we need to answer to shareholder again....the fare rise...then isn't it in hokkien term again call "LPPL"...the change today have given them an opportunity to raise fare further.....so now 1/3 pay more...2/3 save....in one years time or two years time....3/3 will be paying more than present...and the reason given is high operating cost with inflation factor...!!!! :D:D:D then LPPL again....can't we spend the time and work towards a real public transport system and not to waste time building a share holder company and a system that in the end is LPPL... [shakehead][shakehead]

the 1/3 vs 2/3 figure is also rather vague. how much less do the 2/3 pay and how much more do 1/3 pay? over what time period and which part of the population gains most (students? senior citizens?) if the 2/3 pay $0.01 less per person, while the 1/3 pay $1 more per person, end of the day the public operator also earns more leh

if they have indeed thought thru' the whole process and it does benefit the pp, maybe she should be clearer in her explanations? or maybe she doesn't know her stuff or the changes do not actually benefit the pp...

Did you see the ST today? This guy who do route planning now saying that instead of the 30% who are paying more it seems more like 80% are paying more. They are re-looking at the calculations again. Dunno if this will blow up.

public transport still cheaper than driving a car in a jammed up city....

dont op.

Issue here is revised price plan suppose to lower cost of public transport but the end result is increase in cost of public transport.
