Hi all,

Its interesting to keep reading on as you guys share info. I am picking up on the go as I read on.

So a big thanks in advance and especially to Ken4555, Furrynadz, Yuan and Trex101 for helping me out when I first posted in this forum.

One of the questions I have now (believe me, I have more in my mind then this haha) is that being said that I am collecting my new vehicle - Honda Jazz 1.3(A)LX soon, it means that I have to do run-ins like everyone else.

I read that it is recommended that for the first 500 to 1000km, short trips of less than 15minutes is best.

But in my daily travel, I estimate that I will be:

Starting at Sengkang, go down all the way to Novena to drop my partner off, then proceed to Clementi.

So this entire trip will be way beyond 15 minutes.

So should I take such daily trips right from the start? Or make my partner wait while I run-in short trips till after 500km or after 1000km before I start sending her down in long trips? Cause I am really worried that if the 15minute short trip is really crucial, running such long distance trip from the start will not do well for my run-in thus resulting in less lifespan for the vehicle.

Please enlighten me with what you think? Pretty troubled here [bigcry]

Another question is, for tyre pressure, what do you guys use to check it? How is it done, pardon me as I am still in the midst of reading up articles in car bible and other websites, so will be some time before I know even the basics. But am trying my best =)

dude.... its just a car....

u'r getting paranoid.

Hi Friendstar,

Yes! I know! haha. :D

Cause I intend to drive it for long term. Thus trying to pick up as much as I can so as to ensure optimum care and maintenance. Which is troubling since they always say the "run-in" process determines engine lifespan.

Bro, don't worry too much.

No such thing as must minimize to 15 mins for run-in period. Just drive. I assure you nothing will happen in the long run. A car is made to travel very very long miles.

All the best :)

during Run-in... just make sure ur engine rev is around 2.3K rpm and ur speed around 80km/h for the 1st 1000 km.. ( ignore the 15min thingy)

ten when u go for ur 1st servicing, after they top up new mineral oil>> u can chiong liao!! haha

base on what i read and what i feel (for my latio).. ur engine RPM>> around 2K to 3k rpm>>> is the best... most fuel efficient + not noisy

totally agreed... [nod] you gotta enjoy the ride man!! ^_^

i remember when i first gotten my first ride, my dad just reminded me a couple of things b4 the 1000km run in

1. keep within 70km - 90km speed limit

2. nvr rev > 2.5km

3. watch out your display, to see if any error or warning indicator showing

not sure abt the short trips (<15mins ride) from 500km to 1000km though... [:/]

while u have some many things back in mind to be worried, pls dun forget to enjoy ur ride... [drivingcar]

and congrats on your 1st bella!! [bounce2]

Many people believe that during break-in period the harder you drive, the better your car will run in the long run.

Try it at your own risk though. ^_^

Hi E-Jazz

Dont get too paranoid. i had the same situation as you when i got my 1st car.

in my mind, i just tell myself i only run in for the first 1000K. after that, just drive normally. your brain juice will dry up faster if you are too concern with too many "Do's" and "Don'ts"

Just keep one important thing in mind: Drive safety, be home and have a meal with your loved ones.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Limck007,

Thanks for the tip on "new mineral oil" part as well as the RPM.

Hi Frenzzsg,

1. 70km - 90km noted.

2. I don't think I'll rev much since I am those who want to go easy on the accelerator and to maintain a smooth ride. Speeding is not for me these days.

3. Noted on the display, this means that I will straight away read up the instructional manual which should display what those indicators are all about.

Thanks for the sharing.

Hi C-K,

Thanks for replying.

Yea, I read that theory too, which they mentioned is a contradictory theory as compared to what is recommended by the car manufacturer.

share you you this

on the day, just go pick up your new car from agent warehouse, check and make sure whatever should be there are there, whatever promise to you are done.

If all Ok, sign take over, collect key and 1st thing go pump petrol because the will be like only 10L of petrol in the tank.

What petrol to pump. check your handbook in the car, not sure ask the sales man, still not sure, pump ron95, good enough.

run in, for the 1st 1000km, just drive normal, keep max speed to 80km/h and don't go above 2500rpm. in other words don't speed for the 1st 1000km. base on your daily travel, sld hit 1000km in less than 2 weeks. After 1000km service and oil change, can increase speed if you want, if not will good to keep to 80-90km/h, once a while can go up to 100-110km/h but not for too long.

After your 5000km service and oil change, do whatever you want to the car. If you want the car to remember its highest speed, bring the car to NSHW for a good run after 5000km.

this is mine 3rd new car, and this is what I have done to all three.

as for tire pressure, open your driver side car door, by the side is a sticker, which will display the correct pressure need, just go to any petrol station and look out for the air pump, and you can pump up there FOC, cannot find ask the pump attentants.

if your stock tire have been upgraded, like from 14" to 15", than you can check the brand and model of the tire, call up stockist or check who carries these tire and ask them what is the correct pressure.

Hope these helps, happy driving and drive with care.

enjoy your ride and don't worry too much! [laugh]

Hi Pandelene,

Thanks. Thats my intent as well. To ensure that the ride is smooth and safety is always on mind.

Basically its more for travel to work and sending my girlfriend, at times bringing my parents out if can.

thanks.

Hi Tianmo,

Read about the checking part, even came across a downloadable check list for first car collection haha.

Will note the interval and speed as suggested. Nice to know that almost 2 weeks is all it takes for the run-in haha.

Good to know about the pump for air at petrol stations. For my new car, I got a Honda Jazz 1.3(A) LX model. I believe if I did not recall wrongly, its a 16inch rim.

My dad suggested to take that model due to the larger size of the rims and suggest that I upgrade it to even larger tyres at later stages when my tyres wears out. He cited the fact that although that increases fuel consumption, but based on his experience as a cab driver, he says that larger tyres will give better control especially during turning thus it is safer.

and don't ever hamtam the car hard from start.

many years back, my friend had a honda accord, drove at 130km-140km/h from jurong to changi on the 1st day he collected the car, and everyday drive like that, in less than 2 year, I think a 1000cc swift can over take him anytime.......... [:p]

he was like [bigcry] [bigcry] [bigcry]

I believe in hard run in [thumbsup] . From the day I gotten my hands on my car, I just use per normal but I change my EO at 200km, 500km, 1000km than 2000km. I normally rev my engine around 3 -4krpm on my normal usage and so far after 4 years its still strong and powerful as it was just out of the factory. Only thing I did differently was that I change my eo every 5k rather than 10k.

Mine is a manual car so rev till that range is quite controllable for normal driving.

Think your friend just wack and never bother to send for checks and also change engine oil frequently. The more you rev, the faster the EO degrades hence the need to actually change EO much quicker rather than to wait till 10k than change. That is just the basics, got other stuff also need to take care too.
