Cars and the euro emissions standard

looking around all the sports cars are going, going gone

the rx8, civic type r, s2000 are all already gone

 

seriously will we be left with 80bhp cars in the future?

i might be slow but what are the manufacturers gonna do? all going into fully electric or hybrid?

 

then how about the lambos, aston martins, ferraris?

All you mentioned are high RPM NA vehicles. All these may well go the way of the dinosaur unless Honda spends lots of $$$ into developing engines that could meet the regulations (not easy).

 

However, we won't be living with 80HP cars, TC/SC cars are still around. Large CC NA still around.

 

Stricter reglations means engine tuning will have to be different and maybe lower RPM and less power. But just slightly less.

aa these are all old cars la.... seriously, and the big guns of jap like evo, sti,gtr and my fav supra is coming next year muhahahahaha.

where got left with 80bhb car -.-!!! but i dont understand why honda landed in such a state -.-

civic hybrid is < 100bhp ma

even then 200 bhp is not alot, will we see the end of crazy > 500bhp cars due to this standard?

nah wont be, as they are now phasing eletric cars.

and top tier cars like the 2011 supra is a 3.5l hybrid with a v6 engine, that produce 400 horse!

think those brands like lambo, ferrari, porshe are all coming out with such thing sooner or later.

1 thing is more sure. this world move around by $$$, u have the money, no problem in having any car u like, maybe just more tax!!!

Oh, a large CC can actually have less emissions than a small CC engine and use less petrol as well. Not necessary larger CC means less environmental friendly. IT depends on the driver. At low RPMs, there is more time for combustion and engine can run leaner. Hence, less pollutants.

obviously to get 400 horses you can't use the electric engine but because its a hybrid, you'll have ot burn more fuel just to get 400 horses while dragging 100kg worth of useless batteries an an extra electric motor around

but overall a 2L car will always average around 10km/l while a 1.6L will average 13km/l

means that a 2L will burn more petrol for the same amount of distance covered?

 

so what is the purpose of phrasing out 1.6L cars with high rpm when 2L and above cars produce more emissions?

well bro, this u have to ask the euro emission officer, on how they rate the vehicle.

but i belive these car manufatuer spending multi millions in developing these technology, big factor is due to the regulation.

they sure have their stand and point, in thier so called green technology.

so you might see alot of car company go bust in years to come, when the regulation is getting stricter and strciter.

i just happen to read torque yesterday, and saw an article via a sad honda fan.

maybe such thing will happen more and more in times to come.
