Chrispie 5th Gear July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 I believe LTA tolerant level is very high, that's why they dont find their roads bumpy and uneven. There was once i feedback to LTA on a certain road uneven, and they replied me saying you cannot expect the roads to be super smooth, and different people have different tolerant level, and they concluded that LTA can accept the condition of that particular road. yes.. i do agree it cannot be even due to settlement after patching etc.. (rem when you are feeling up your trenches after defense exercise? ) But by covering it in a strip... it makes the drive very very very bad, not to mention the risk of losing control of the car (i feel i have to steer extra carefully when one side of the car is riding on these patches)... I think bottom line is, they are saving money. All they need to do is to cover the whole affected lane in sectors and no problem already. ↡ Advertisement

I think not saving money but more likely that they are now more slack towards their quality control. The person-in-charge just didnt ensure that the hole is patch evenly, and to them if the hole is patched means their job is done.
Yeobh 4th Gear July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 This type of mindset is common among goverment officers and generally most of the Singaporean. Build nice building, buy big cars etc but spend very small amount in preventive maintenance just like our train and bus operators. Do not change any parts or components just wait until it break down. Heartbreakid 6th Gear July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 Yes I do agree that condition of local roads are getting worse. Roads are dug and resurfaced and dug again. What was once a flat smooth road has become bouncy for the ride. If a person going through operations many times, it would be tough for that person to have good health. Same logic goes for the road conditions. Dug more. Expect to see more sink holes appear in future.
Odyssey2011 5th Gear January 4, 2018 Share January 4, 2018 (edited) You can write to LTA, usually they will reply with explanations or even the timetable for repairsFound this interesting post started in 2013. 5 years now. It seems those complaints in 2013 were tolerable to some Drivers, but now the road conditions are at a new bad level in my view. Found this information from a magazine “On the subject of road maintenance, Samwoh’s Dr Lee told us that they work closely with the Land Transport Authority (LTA). “We own a series of highly specialised laser and sonar equipment to analyse surface thickness, transverse and longitudinal deflection, 3-D profile, friction coefficient and wear pattern. The data we acquire is provided to the LTA for their input into the Pavement Management System or PMS”. “ So with this PMS the road conditions still worsening. How often is this PMS update? Nobody is analysing these data and feedback properly? Possible root causes, 1) Too many constructions till no way a regular maintenance schedule can keep up? 2) Or it is the maintenance schedule cannot keep up to meet the demand of over using? No.s of singapore cars on road and the new constructions in Singapore are predictable news. Any authority or ministry bosses sleeping at the job and didn’t realise maintenance frequently need to increase to meet increase demand? 3) maybe it is due to some new inferior road material technology to save cost? Hope we can discuss on the topic again, road conditions should not be worsening like no end, not even the quietness tyres going help, also tyres wearing out sooner, braking distance will be longer. LTA will tell you the solution is Car lite. With less Car and less usage then less to maintain.
Odyssey2011 5th Gear January 4, 2018 Share January 4, 2018 LTA will tell you the solution is Car lite. With less Car and less usage then less to maintain.Car lite can’t help much I thk. Looking at Car population and the worsening conditions, these didn’t show a very close relation. Heavy vichcles damages much more, coupled with insufficient road conditions monitoring and re-surfacing schedule works.

Odyssey2011 5th Gear January 4, 2018 Share January 4, 2018 Just open your eyes and look around. Where do you think is our power cables, internet/phone cables, water supply/sewage pipes and etc? Yes infrastructures and constructions are increasing, so road maintenance work should increase. Don’t think it is so much about new cables and piping installation. Proper road resurfacing will be done after that. Didn’t those re-surfacing inspected and accepted properly?
Neutrino Supercharged January 4, 2018 Share January 4, 2018 I can't remember ever seeing so much road works going on. Everywhere 3 lanes reduced to two lanes. (of coursenthat's an exaggeration but there is still a lot of road works )
13177 Supersonic January 4, 2018 Share January 4, 2018 Re-surfacing of roads here is very bad la, very often they just anyhow patch the road and created a hump on the road which they dont even bother. And when you drive over, sometimes you would have a shock as you cant really notice the ''hump''!

Brench mark countries with better road, Singapore road was once comparable to theirs. PMS has a way to judge the road conditions by standard, it seems there are lots of road surfaces are below this standard, and nobody is doing enough things to help it get better or meet this standard. Comparing with countries, not a good way. since they have a monitoring system, shouldn’t they publish the road monitoring result or some summary performance indicators to justify if all road being well enough? If not, then they should do something to improve it. If there is no concrete result to reflect road conditions, or worst there is somebody sleeping on this issue or not doing enough. Drivers, who can help you?
