Hi bros,

This topic may be a bit out of point but I am looking at air purifiers at home for my masterbedroom (HDB).

I am considering to get one for my masterbedroom as my daughter began to show signs of allergy recently. She has been wheezing a bit for the past 1 week but doesn't seem to get any better even with the nose drop that the PD gave her.

I have researched on Sharp and it seems quite good. Last night I was at Best Denki and this sales promoter kept promoting Europace to us and said that she has been an user all this time. I only wonder if she is the Europace promoter since she said that it has UV light which kills germs better than other brands...Sharp on the other hand is costly to maintain in terms of the cost of the filter (ard $160-180) but it lasts for about 5 years.

Do feel free to drop in your experience and recommendation with any other air purifiers.

Just my opinion. Did you check your room for moulds? Moulds are often the cause of allergy and most likely found hiding behind or underneath furniture in your room. Maybe you shud try to do some spring cleaning and clear away the moulds. Whatever air purifier you use the allergens will still recirculate in your room. What you shud do first is to eliminate the root of the problem.

I do clean the room very often anticipating that this may happen. But the only place I left out is under the divan bed since that is the place that is really hard to reach. I should do a thorough clean this weekend to ensure that the room is totally cleaned.

FYI, I have a sharp purifier at home.. it was quite good for my wife and gal.

Although the hepa filter + charcoal filter is expensive.. the quality is there..

My wife wheezing sound is gone after we place the filter in the room..

I just replace my both filters for ard $150...

Just think of it as a investment and $30 per year is okay if u spread the cost to 5 years.

I use the Osim iLife. Not bad though it's not situated in my room.

Whatever brand you buy, just make sure that you can easily buy additional pieces of the unwashable filter (depending on brand/model) and the activated carbon for the next few years. Need to consider if they will not support them in the medium term. Need to also consider the price of these replacements as my filter and carbon cost like $125 per set and I need to change them every 6 months or so. Only good thing is that I can buy them from all Osim shops. Not sure about the rest of the brands.

I am not a believer of air purifiers until i was introduced to Goodaire in 2003 just before SARS:. and been using it till now.

for myself we have 6 units in the house, one for each room and i like it cos during world cup, my brothers and friends watched at our place every night, among them there are 3 smokers.. every morning when i change water, i can smell the cig smell in the water, very scary haha.. im insomanic but after using it, i sleep better too, also my mum allergies have reduced in occurances and brothers sinus problems stopped and my bro gf who was battling with bronchitis for 4 months recovered in 4 days after using (so did 4 of my colleagues toddler sons which i gave them goodaire as christmas gifts cos i know of the condition and they all recovered, 2 of the boys stopped wheezing and 'whistling' while sleeping).. i have not turned on mine for over 7 months and i just caught a flu, so my mum turned it on for me last night, managed to clear stuffy nose cos of the essential oil :) im not kidding...

anyway my cousins are using philips and sharp purifiers too, its quite good also.. their room less dusty too... when you go into the room it feels fresher, dunno why and the air easier to breathe and their complexion clear up too, believe it or not :)

whatever it is, air purifier exist for a reason and it does worked... hope you can find one that is suitable for you..

hope this info helps :)

I used to own one as well. IMHO, the plasma purifiers work better. The Good aire thing just sort of mask over whatever smell in the room. And noisier as well vs the purifiers.

the imitation ones masked over the real ones dun cos i saw a live demo of someone using a cig butt and putting it near both, the goodaire, you will see the smoke being sucked into it while imitation dkes nkthing but air freshener hahaa... for my living room, someone smoked and its able to suck in the air cos next dqy change water got cig smell... hahahaha.. yours is goodaire so it does help with cleaning..

well both kind of purifer be it water or electronic type, both also useful and both also does its job well... so i guess whatever that helps us, doesnt really matter what we use, so long got effect mah right? hahaha

Bought it when it was first launched. $180. [knife] And the essence from them also. [knife] Then after a couple of years, got other brands in the market. So much cheaper.

Either type of purifier still need to do regular maintenance and cleaning. If not will be no use.

the ionizer releases ions that make you feel fresher.. although the ions might irritate some ppl.

Bluair is quieter than honeywell, good for light sleepers

Based on what I saw a few years ago, the Honeywell models look more industrial and bulky while the Jap brands have a sleeker look and smaller footprint. Ceteris paribus, I will pick the sleeker design.
