SINGAPORE - A Singapore Police Force trainee has been hospitalised after he hit his head on the ground during a physical training exercise.

Hoe Qing Ren, 21, was taking part in a sprinting exercise when he collided with another trainee. He then fell to the ground and hit his head.

The incident occurred at the Home Team Academy off Old Choa Chu Kang Road.

His elder brother Qing An told The Straits Times that he had two clots in his brain and had undergone two operations at the National University Hospital to relieve the pressure.

Doctors were starting to take him off sedatives because of his stable condition. However, he remains unconscious.

The other trainee, Muhammad Haziq Haris, 20, injured his left shoulder

The Straits Times also reported that the commander of the Home Team Academy's Training Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zuraidah Abdullah, had suspended the sprinting exercise pending further review. Other aspects of physical training will continue.

The sprint exercise, also known as "Fun Relay", involves two trainees from opposite sides sprinting towards an instructor in the centre. It is meant to help trainees with the shuttle run station in the Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT).

i dunno why they need the 2 runners to run towards each other. can't they run side by side?

Simulating a head on charge by would-be-assailant but seems like using one's head is no longer considered an option. [laugh][laugh]
