Keithchue 5th Gear December 1, 2017 Share December 1, 2017 Just to add, my tires 235/65R18. Pressure at 30psi instead of the 33psi recommendation specs. Still doesn’t help with the harsh ride. Also, to improve ride comfort, any after mkt shocks to recommend? Was advice if change shocks, keep stock springs as after mkt springs not as good. Any comments? maybe check mountings, they are also absorbing some shock. ↡ Advertisement
ianest 1st Gear December 1, 2017 Share December 1, 2017 maybe check mountings, they are also absorbing some shock. You referring to engine and gearbox mountings? According to technician, they look ok during the 119 point inspection. Any other mountings ?

I drive a Murano 3.5. According to 2 different Tan Chong technicians at 2 different centres with test drive, they feel there is nothing wrong with suspension. I've been driving consecutive for last 20yrs, i don't think my butt is "sensitive". Perhaps SUV was meant to feel firm. I find my stock suspension system too stiff and prefers softer and more comfort ride. What would you recommend?

Check the tyres size, load and speed index vs the recommended. The recommendation would be in the owners manual or on the placard somewhere on the vehicle. Tyres forms part of the suspension - the sidewall stiffness contributes to the overall ride comfort. E.g. performance tyres that have stiffer side walls. different load index and speed index vs recommended old tyres with harden side walls - check the date code

If that’s the case then buy Bilstein dampers and eibach springs for your ride and adjust to softest damping. Hope it’s to your liking.

Unless the Tan Chong technicians are wrong, (they say suspension feels normal), else must change car liao... :-) tyre 235/65R18 . Tyre pressure pump 3psi below manual recommended. What's the recommended? E.g A) Recommended 205/55R16 91V Front/Rear 220/210 - Original tyres bias towards comfort and quiet tyres B) Change to 205/55R16 91V Front/Rear 220/210 - Michelin PS3 bias towards performance. C) Change to 205/55R16 94W Front/Rear 210/220 - Michelin PS4 bias towards performance Comparing B to A - stiffer sidewalls - harsher ride comfort e.g. less tolerant to speed regulating strips - steering more responsive - better grip in wet/dry Compare C to B - softer sidewalls - at recommended pressure of 220/210, ride more bouncy - at recommend pressure - steering response too light and sensitive - at recommended pressure, slight reduction in wet/dry grip IMHO, if all else the same, the reduction of pressure maybe a no-no as it may compromise the traction and longevity (heat) of the tyre i.e. safety.
