Hi all,

Just switched from PC notebook to Macbook Pro yesterday.

Wanted to from out from the Mac expert here on whether can I use the notebook like my desktop PC?

I bought the DVI converter to hook on to my external monitor. Next I'm getting external keyboard and mouse too.

With these equipment in place, can I close my Macbook screen and use the mentioned external equipment? I don't want the Macbook to go into sleep mode each time I close the screen.

Kindly advise me and Thank you very much.

Regards,

Yes you can. Mac OS X snow leopard is as customizable, if not more customizable than windows PC.

For best amc experience, get apple's cinema display to hook to your MacBook pro, get the Bluetooth wireless keyboard and magic mouse to pair with your MacBook pro .... Voila, everything works like a dream.

Anyway, if you don't want everything apple, you still can use Microsoft or logitech mouse or keyboard and pair with view sonic or any other LCD monitor.

ps, in clamshell mode it heats up abit because it ventilates through the keyboard usually

I'm sorry, but how is it more customizable???

OIC, so the lingo is "Clamshell mode". I will go download Insomnia X to try out.

Thank you very much.

bro... how much you spent?

Macbook Pro (15" or 13.3")?

DVI converter?

I bought the 13" one in KL. Over here, student price is RM3399 or S$1422. Published price is RM3699 or S$1547.

In Singapore, they are selling somewhere like S$1650 right? You can get your Mac from City Square or Danga City Mall.

DVI converter is RM99, around S$41.

Anyway, Mac carries International warranty so it doesn't matter where you get the MacBook from. All are made in China.

Even Dell notebooks are more expensive in Singapore.

Yup, 2 types of bluetooth keyboard... one with num pad, the other without... but i think the numpad keyboard has been phased out. Now, they sell it separately.... keyboard and numpad which can fit to make a single keyboard snugly. ... but you pay twice.

Forget about the magic mouse. While the multi touch is really nice to use... and bluetooth connects seamlessly, the tracking speed is slow. I cannot get used to it. Also the shape is not ergonomical enough for my hand.

Get the Microsoft Arc Touch mouse. ... i think it works with Mac... I love microsoft mouse. Fits my hands nicely, and tracking at good speed.

Thanks for the tip. Probably will go with the full size keyboard then but 1st thing 1st, have to make sure the Insomnia X works for me. Lucky I didn't get the Magic mouse.

Sure you can. You can install a OSX on a PC easy. Only caveat is that you'll have to boot-up in OSX to use them simultaneously, but I reckon its well worth the cost savings.
