personally dont care what he said, says, going to say.. as long as he is STILL on singapore's coffers.. its tax payers money.. how can it be simply a private citizen's comments? no need accountability?

but then again.. our existing MPs also have some that brush away with ''explanations''.. heck.. top down

this is just hilarious or double standard lohhh

what you said locally is sibjected to legalistive laws and accountabilities - i.e. kana sued until underpants are gone . . . .

but what a country representative(s) especially the ambassador at-large are held no responsibilty of what he commented outside the country on/for the country he repesented . . . . .

and this sort of reply coming from our foreign minister................ wahhhhh, really 1st Class !!!!

:dizzy:  :a-confused:  :a-confused:  :a-confused:

Are you talking bout manufacturing?

We already are at plateau for the limited manufacturing we do here. Very automated. Problem is in indo and vietnam the factories are equally automated and the skilled engineers are paid s$1.5k/mth plus cheap cheap land lease. The only reason they are not ahead is the top is still corrupt as f**k. Long may it continue, good for sg. Once they clean up, bye bye.

It's not just about corrupt govt in those countries. There's a massive divide between rich and poor. The rich ruthlessly exploit the rest, paying very little for educated/skilled workers, reaping a huge profit.

As far as this kind of income inequality is concerned, singapore is heading there, gradually. You can already see how our professionals are not getting paid as much as in developed western nations, how the market for luxury stuff and properties grow while the vast majority of the population are not getting richer.

good point!

the expensive housings are driven from high landsales that they orchestrated with developers & overseas investors

the rise of chicken rice & others are driving from the high rentals by landlords who are none other than led by them

the recent rise in medical insurances . . . . . by extending coverages by the . . .  y'know who!

now that oil price remains low, they purposely raise spendings on other sources..... just to justify for expenses

how can commoners save some $ when  . .  they are going all out to raise prices almost to everything here just to cover their spendings

We cannot compete on cost as there will always be a cheaper alternative out there.

I say let these cheapo countries fight among themselves. We shall target the innovative, high value or efficiency route.

Get rid of the cheap FT and let companies innovate naturally. There is already tax incentive and various govt funding for them. The workforce is also well educated. These we shall leverage on for the next 10 years.

There won't be much inspiration to move forward if there are still 2m FT here.

Exactly. Innovation and productivity will only come about when there is lack of resource.

why? because it is precisely due to a lack of something, that you will try to achieve the end result with whatever you currently have.

MoM still do not understand the full dynamics of creativity. that is why all they can do is talk about productivity, but never plan or try to plan a shift in focus from cost to one of value.

That mantra where most of us grew up with (do it right... do it ONCE) is lost with this bunch of jokers in parliament.

it is all about the GDP. if the GDP is not inflated, the bonuses that follow (because their KPIs are tied to it) will not come.

They may be using robots to lay the cable, etc.

You're right, over here is relying on 10 FW, since it's cheaper than a robot.

Productivity ? what's that ?

This is what productivity truly means.  The japs are really amazing.  And we are far from behind.  If we were to do this, we will take 2 months.

Do they use FW for construction?  i don't think so.
