Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear May 16, 2011 Share May 16, 2011 Any new/creative alternative version to the traditional rice dumplings to share? Forgot how my mum prepared her rice dumplings, and missed them (different ingredients/spices used).
Opel17 6th Gear May 16, 2011 Share May 16, 2011 Just came back from Sheng Shiong Jalan Bahar. Now selling dumplings under stall outside their cashiers line, take in and Q at cashier. Nonya, pork dumplings @S$1.20. Other types incl salted egg yolk iirc @S$2. I bought 10 for nonya and pork, plus 1 each nonya and pork [direct from their steamer] for supper tonight. Last year, I bought only 5 + 5. For cheapo like me, I find good value --> u chnee, u pnee, u koon lor pnee, u tua liap You can even buy only 1pc direct from their steamer, try on the spot before deciding whether to buy more. Forgot how my mum prepared her rice dumplings, and missed them (different ingredients/spices used). Fry some darkened glutinous rice, add some beans, buy some leaves or get some from the garden, fold the leaves into a cone shape, put some glutinous rice, beans, mushroom and of course, lots of "fat pork", tie it well, and then steam it for half a day. Sorry, do not like the white or overly creative versions.
