It's about market price... maybe a couple of dollars + / - .

So you are not getting carrot at the price for a 320GB 2.5" external HDD

However, for a few dollars more can get 500GB < $100

and for $120+ can get 1TB.

I think $60+ for a 320GB is not value for money. You get more bang for buck when you get a 1TB.

Must look at $ per GB, not just the cheapest price alone.

Supersonic

Quite recently, I bought a 500GB Iomega 2.5" ext HDD from Giant for $80+ (less than $90).

About 2 years before that, I had bought a Seagate 320GB 3.5" ext HDD from somewhere for around the same price.

Point is, $/GB and form factor are always shrinking. If those prices are in USD, give it a miss - you get better deals back home. And buy 500GB - 1TB, nothing less.

IMO, its not prudent to get anything beyond 500gb for ur external hd and dump all your datas inside. All hd has a lifespan of up to 5 years. Maybe just get 2 or 3, 320gb hd rather than 1 tb hd. BTW burning them into ur cd is still the safest thing to do.
