Over the years safety has been a very important issue on Formula One, and it still is. Security has incredibly increased over the years with more and more safety gadgets, techlogies and car development techniques have been created to make F1 a safer motorsport. Well FIA continues its work in trying to grant that safety continues to evolve in F1 and maybe covering the cockpit might be in the plans. Here is a video from FIA's Intitute of Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability that shows tests of a possible cover of the cockpit. Check the video here

What do you think? Is it a good idea? Or do you think it will change F1 forever?

Well it certainly looks different. If they really implement this on all F1 cars, it will look more like Space cars than F1 cars LOL.

It would improve on safety a lot.

This is the clip of Allan McNish's crash in his Audi R18 at Le Mans 2011. He is lucky that Audi went with a closed cockpit in the R18 instead of the open-top that the previous R10 and R15 had.....

I'd say thumbs down for such an "upgrade" to the driver's cockpit. All these rules, regulation and new safety equipment is making F1 races really really boring. I believe the drivers knew what they signed up for, the risks involved and so on. Please for the love of god, don't put this shielded hull over F1 cars, leave it to the Le Mans Prototypes...

Sigh, guess only the WRC which is worth watching now

This is only being thoght, and evolution is part of motorsports. No sport is always static. Things have to change...hope they are for the best and they don't end up taking even more excitement to the races

the drivers already wear fire resistant clothes and are sitting inches away from a scorching hot engine that is burning tons of petrol per second

asking them to sit in a cockpit will be like sitting in hell
