Twincharged

I think considered quite smooth already compared to many other countries. Those that say very bumpy should go try and drive in more different countries. Even in some developed countries the roads still have lots of potholes and are very bumpy.

Singapore's roads rated the best in the world

03:04 PM Aug 18, 2011

SINGAPORE - The Republic's road network has been rated the best in the world, in both design and safety.

It received the recognition at the annual Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) awards ceremony held in St Louis, Missouri, on Monday.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) was presented with the Edmund R Ricker Transportation Safety Council Award for its efforts in improving safety for road users in Singapore.

Only one award is given out in the individual and organisation categories each year.

Past winners of this prestigious international award include the World Bank, and city administrations in America and Australia for their efforts in promoting road safety.

maybe they are talking about road design and not the road surface itself

and its obvious that it will be better designed compared to other countries as Singapore is small

Having lived/stayed in overseas, Singapore roads are indeed good. Again, being small with short highways, you are expected to be good.

Don't have to go far, just by comparing Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, drivers here are indeed blessed though we have some of those car unfriendly MSCPs and small narrow ground level car park here and there.

Regards,

Safety my arse, when you have random construction works all the time, big shot VIP convoys or random construction vehicles with cisco escorts disrupting traffic flows, extremely confusing/ever changing road layouts due to abovementioned construction, plant pruning and watering at weird hours.. I think the judges just took a ride from changi airport-airport boulevard and back again.

With the tax burden on Singapore motorist the highest in the world, anything less than what is provided today would be considered scandalous!! [furious]

Doubling up on this, Singapore basically doesn't have rural roads, or anything like that - so it contributes A LOT to this sort of award

SMRT also win some kind of award, although we see so many problems.

These awards must be really low class awards. [laugh]

Right on the money Raymond. Ive lived here 8 years and in that time the car population has exploded, the driving skills gone backwards and the road surfacing likewise.

Now we have the roll out of optic fibre our roads are like a patchwork quilt. And when that isnt happening it is one department or another digging up then refilling what seems to be the same or similar holes. Who said Singapore is efficient?

These awards are meaningless - have you ever noticed how the ST, that mouthpiece of the PAP is always digging up some pointless or meaningless statistic to reassure the good citizenry that all is well and Uncle PAP is caring for you? Roll on the next election............
