A most horrific way to die - to be eaten alive by a predator.

This reminded me of the tragic death of Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend who were both attacked and eaten alive by Grizzlies some time ago.

Imagine the mother's anguish and despair to listen to her daughter's gruesome death...

Geesh, what a way to die... [:(]

Mother hears bear, cubs eat daughter

06:00 AEST Thu Aug 18 2011

A teenager who was eaten alive by a brown bear and her cubs in Russia called her mother and gave a horrific running commentary of the attack, telling her "the bear is eating me!"

Olga Moskalyova, 19, made three calls to her mother during the attack, which lasted more than an hour and also claimed the life of her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, the Daily Mail reports.

The trained psychologist, who had been camping in a forest in the extreme east of Siberia, phoned for help after she saw the mother bear attack her stepfather, breaking his neck and crushing his skull.

Tatiana Tsyganenkov initially thought her daughter was joking when she screamed: "Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it's such agony!"

"Then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga's voice, and the sounds of the bear growling and chewing," Mrs Tsyganenkov said.

But Mrs Tsyganenkov could only listen helplessly as her daughter described the attack, telling her the mother the bear had brought its three cubs to feed on her.

The teenager made her final call about an hour after the first, telling her mother she loved her and no longer felt any pain before the phone cut out.

Police arrived at the scene with Mr Tsyganenkov's brother half-an-hour later to find the mother bear still devouring her dead victims, who were buried this week, and hunters were sent to destroy the animals.

My wife and daughter cried while reading the news : (

When we watch documentaries of lions & tigers catching and devouring their victims we say hey survivor of the fittest and too bad they have to die.

But when it comes to human beings, it is another situation altogether...

I do agree with most wildlife activists that we human beings are the guilty ones who intrude into their territory in the first place.

Timothy Treadwell was most famous for getting very close to wild Grizzlies and some have reservations about him being too close to a wild and unpredictable creature.

The ultimate price to pay was sadly his own life and his girlfriend's when they decided to camp in a bear country without any sort of protection...

Understand it is just survival of the wild life, instant death is acceptable, the sad part was the girl was reporting to her mum while she was been eaten alive slowly [:(]

For those who wants to find out more of Treadwell, this is the link:

Grizzly Attack - Timothy Treadwell

by Lynn Rogers

Everyone who follows bear news knows that Tim Treadwell and his friend Amie Huguenard were killed by a grizzly bear in Katmai National Park on October 5, 2003. The picture of the tragic scene in Kaflia Bay is vivid in my mind because that is one of the places I visited Tim during my trips to observe grizzlies.

The last person to speak to Tim was his friend Jewel Palovak, co-author of Tim

bears are so cute on tv....anyway the bears are not to blame because they see humans like other animals - food.

why these people want to risk their life and camp in the wild in the first place.

As a kid, I was told: a fool and his money soon part company. Now a days, I read reports: a fool and his/her life soon part company. No mention why would people venture into such business of being the fresh food supply for wild animals? No sense of danger or mentally retarded? [:p]

First thing that came to my mind is why are they not arm with some sort of weapon when they camp in such remote areas?

I think in those countries, guns are easily and readily available, right?

I would at least have a good hunting knife with me.

Actually I don't pity them, I think they are plain stupid.

Over here I go hiking with a stick to ward off wild dogs, just in case.

Reminds me of how the bears were kept in cages to be harvested for their gall. That is intentional cruelty.

To camp at a bears' territory? Wad u expect? The mother bear and cubs to drop by your tent, say good morning?, and ask u for food??!

Seriously...

Normally wildlife will avoid human contact if they can help it.

Large predators, however, do not tolerate intrusions into their territory and will attack if necessary to stake their claims of it. Human beings are always guilty of violating this through settlement expansion, tourism & in the name of scientific research.

Sadly many paid the ultimate price with their lives and the bears have to be put down though often through no fault of theirs.

The recent case of a polar bear attack which killed a 17-year old Brit student and injured some of his friends in Norway was another example of why human brings should respect nature. They were camping in polar bear country and was viciously attacked by a bear. Again the offending bear was shot dead by the authorities afterwards.
