Gents,

I would like to ask a question. As stated below, I received a letter almost 1/2 a year ago for speeding. I am unclear if I will be required to appear in court as the letter I received did not state so. It simply wrote that I have 12 demerits points deducted if i recall it correctly. The below that I have quoted from SPF is unclear as I am not sure if the sentence "These offenders will be prosecuted in court." refers to the offenders above or below it. I am asking this as I am working overseas and am concerned that I might miss this.

I hope anyone who has experienced this before could advise me better.

Much appreciated...

"12 Demerit Points

Exceeding speed limit for vehicle by more than 40km/h up to 50km/h.
Exceeding the speed limit of the road by more than 40km/h up to 50km/h.

These offenders will be prosecuted in court.

Failing to conform to traffic red light signals.

In addition, a composition amount is imposed as follows:

Light Vehicle (unladen weight of 2500 kg and below) : S$200.00
Heavy Vehicle (unladen weight exceeds 2500 kg) : S$230.00

Use of mobile telephone whilst driving.

The offenders may be prosecuted in court and disqualified from driving. The offender's handphone and SIM card may also be seized to facilitate investigation. These may be forfeited by the court upon conviction.

Court Penalties:

1st time offender- Fine not exceeding $1000.00 or jail sentence of up to 6 months or both.
2nd or subsequent conviction- Fine not exceeding $2000.00 or jail sentence of up to 12 months or both. "

Bring along 5k. Although unlikely will be so high.
Alternatively, appeal for lighter punishment. May not need to attend court, but still fine (compounded), and demerit points awarded.

More than 40km/h?
If the TP caught u that means you have no valid excuse for speeding.
Even with valid reason that is too fast in singapore's city traffic and pose a danger to other road user.
Tsk tsk.
