Meepok87 Neutral Newbie September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 hi to all bros here, Just asking, I just change to a sales job, and would need the car to be under my name for the car allowance to be certified. All along i have been driving a car which is under my dad's name and his name for insurance. So if i need to do a transfer, how do i go about doing it? Would the transfer require me to re purchase a new insurance? ( just renewed in June) Many thanks! have a nice day! ↡ Advertisement
Acieed 1st Gear September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 (edited) For a start, there is a transfer fee -- https://vrl.lta.gov.sg/lta/vrl/action/pubfu...uireTransferFee. This site will tell you how much to pay for the transfer, inclusive of the road tax balance. You will need to get your own insurance. If you had been the named driver throughout the lifetime of the car, you _might_ be able to negotiate continuation of the NCD and premium. Silver_blade Turbocharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Is the car is not under loan, transferring should be easy. Don't worry too much about the insurance, should be able to get a pro-rated refund and your can then take up a new car insurance.
SimonTan 2nd Gear September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Go one motoring to key in your car plate to see the transfer fees. Insurance don't need to change your name. If now can cover you, then after transfer also can cover you. The insurance do not care about car ownership.
Gizmore Supercharged September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Just a thought, Is it possible to transfer the name of the vehicle over whereas the loan reminds with the same name?

Acieed 1st Gear September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 Don't think so. Technically, it's a "hire purchase" contract. How can you make a hire purchase for something you are not buying ? Just a thought, Is it possible to transfer the name of the vehicle over whereas the loan reminds with the same name?

Is it under loan? if yes, your dad must repay the loan.. then you go apply new loan... just like a normal buy and sell... yes you need insurance if no loan.. i guess a simple S&P should be sufficient + the transfer fee and new insurance.. you must apply insurance first before they allow transfer
13177 Supersonic September 12, 2011 Share September 12, 2011 (edited) If the car dont have outstanding loan, then transfer will be very easy. You just need to get yourself a car insurance, after which then proceed to LTA with the old owner IC and new owner IC, also fill up one form, and the transfer will be done instantly.
