I see!  Good also... Got a good deal can forget about the additional 2yrs warranty.

Lexus is basically toyota which is bread and butter for outside workshops. As I posted before,  alot of parts sharing under the lexus skin.

Don't need specialised workshop unless yours is hybrid. Even my hybrid servicing outside same as normal cars. Keep fingers cross nothing happens to my hybrid system before I sell it off.. Lol

Mine is 3 years cos I got it cheap during the run out offer two months ago

Haha ya, actually warranty is not critical to me. If the car is a lemon, problems will have surfaced from day one.

Any issue thereafter, likely to be attributed to wear and tear.

I'm looking for specialised workshop so that they have the right diagnostic computers. I'm more worried about electronic fault codes rather than mechanical issues. Hehe

In fact, I think Lexus has its own in-house painting facilities.

It was previously located along Leng Kee Road, but it was relocated to Pandan Loop a few years ago.

Although I could "stomach" the higher cost, the extended downtime is really a bummer.

However, in exchange, you get a perfect colour match (which might be tricky for external workshops for older cars) and they follow Lexus' paintwork standard, which is outstanding.

Bro, yes they have in-house paint shop, but my experience is also terok with them:

Bumper not enough clear coat - now looks like matt.

Spray clear coat over undamaged door (for "color-matching" purpose) while door not totally clean - now have permanant dirty marks on door.

Specs of blue paint from other spray jobs kena 1 corner of the car

clear coat overspray all over the car - thankfully 1 weekend of aggressive clay bar managed to remove.. heng.

Their repair quality is top-notch yes, but paint shop quality is scary... thats why I don't dare to ask them to redo the bad stuff they did - for fear it makes things worse.

Sheesh, that sounds really terok. I am worried about the paint job, less so the dent and scratch repairs, but it looks like no guarantee as well with BM.

For me, if they're only selling with 5-year warranty, I'll take it any time of the day.

I like the option to be on my side whether I need the warranty coverage from the 4th year.

Also, for wear-and-tear parts, I'll still fix it outside BM even within the first 3 years for brake-pads, air-con filters, etc...  The differential in saving is just too good to pass.

Better keep to BM for the 5 years warranty. Once you fall out of BM service radar, you effectively give them the most powerful excuse to void your warranty no matter how you argue.

That's why there are pros and cons to the recent trend of ADs offering 5yrs warranty from the previous 3yrs standard.

Hi Everyone,

Any one can help override the function that now prohibits DVD and GPS input when the car is moving?

I know this is a safety function in my ES but even the other passengers cannot watch DVD when the car the moving, only can "hear".

Let me know if any workshop provides this service.

Thanks.

Neutral Newbie

wah, never heard of it.

my previous ES/ ESh/GS/RX/Camry/Alphard/VF cruise control stick never felt flimsy or give us any issues. Its one of the easiest to use compared to honda or merc.  Can use my right ring or even little finger to activate it (without looking down). Designwise remain the same till now.

If its not due to "accident" or hard knock, then likely its manufacturing defect.

Good that BM replace it for free.

Ok, I went down to get the cruise control stalk and steering coil replaced.

Cruise control stalk broken - NO WARRANTY! If it malfunctions, then foc replacement. But because it broke, I had to pay cost of parts and labour. $300+ after discount on overpriced part

Steering coil replaced at no cost.

Seems that BM warranty on parts for 5 years is only to cover if something goes wrong with the part and not if it is broken

u mean u expected it to be under warranty?  [confused]

I went down to test the ES250 and it seems to be a very nice car but is it fair to compare the ES250 against C class against 3 series? Or should I compare it against E class and 5 series?

Never against E or 5.. GS should be against E or 5. ES is in between C and E and more like C200 although is bigger.

You can't compare a Toyota make luxury with a BMW and Mercedes, it's different league all together.

Can you compare a 10k grand seiko watch with a 10k Rolex?

For the ES 250, you should take it as a luxury version of the 2.5L Camry.

Just to share, the ES250 is Japanese made but it is meant for export.

IMO, try to buy those models that the japanese also sell domestically like the GS turbo cos the japs always like to keep the good stuff to themselves

Depends on your budget.  No use comparing if E class and 5 series is out of your budget.

Drive both, test the linear power, transmission and the smoothness/promptness on hard accelerations (floor the accelertor).

In my opinion, ES will excel on the above issues.

Especially important for those who appreciate/car enthusiast.

.

If drive "slowly", may not be able to detect the shortcomings of the Germans auto transmission.

A few S class or E class buyer regret trading their lexus, from the above issue alone.

But other than that, overall experience with Merc or BM can be superior, dont know why, maybe the whole package or the image.

Just choose carefully what suits you or your family best.

Size wise comparable to E or 5 series. Note: Humble Camry interior can be more spacious than 5 series or E class - esp the middle row head and leg room!). ES cavernous interior is one of the strong points.

LS500

I can understand why Lexus decided to abandon their normal aspirated engine for turbo charged engine, which results in a smaller capacity engine. Which the new LS according to agent is about 3500 plus cc.

I also understand there is leap progress in the development of turbo charged technology but we cant escape the fact the heat generation is tremendous under the bonnet. Already a normally aspirated engine gives off so much heat.

If the car is driven in European countries including Japan and USA, understandable because ambient temperature is typical much cooler than our scorching heat in the tropics. Heat is the greatest enemy of anything electrical and plastics which the engine bay has a lot.

I am certain that reliable would drop for the new LS once the warranty of car is over.

PS: I have a dislike for turbo or supercharge especially in a non-sport car. It is a poor alternative to boost power. I wondered why they do something like this on their flag ship car. You don't see that happening in Merc which offer a variety of engines to suit the driver. I am complete lost.
