Stiener 1st Gear December 9, 2011 Share December 9, 2011 Looking for some comments from drivers who do not allow others to move into your lane during a traffic jam. When a driver has signal way ahead and slowly inching (part of the car body) into your lane. Under what circumstances would you want to drive up and cut off his route to complete that lane change even at the risk of a collision? I really cannot find a logical reason and give you the benefit of doubt cos I always try to assist other driver to lane change when they are stuck. ↡ Advertisement
Z_Dash Clutched December 9, 2011 Share December 9, 2011 Its always this case. On 90% of occasion when i sighted opening on side lane which i wanted to switch over.......upon signaling..........the driver behind immediately accelerated and close up the gap. Being a new driver on road i had encountered quite a few times where i went into wrong lane and desperately trying to switch lane to avoid making a big round......but always in return i get is drivers accelerating ahead and even high-beamed. Stiener 1st Gear December 9, 2011 Author Share December 9, 2011 Simply because there are too many queue jumpers on the road. Aiya...already mentioned liao. I'm referring to traffic jams. In such cases, would you assist cars on your right to come into your lane so that they can exit?

That means it's not just me. Is it because when they are also stuck in this situation in the past, no one give way to them. Which develops into since no one else gave way to me in the past, I shall not give way too? Any other drivers would like to share?

I still remember one case few years ago, jam on the AYE, was trying to change lane *from 2nd lane to 3rd lane as we are going to go out of the expressway via asliproad, before we change lane, we signal and wait for 3 seconds before changing lane, the car at the third lane had already slow down to let us fill the gap, but unknown to us, when we are about to change lane, this joker on the third lane *Which slowed down before to let us fill the gap* suddenly speed up to close the gap, making my father swire the vehicle back into lane 2, then this joker after filling the gap pressed his horn, whine down the window and show his finger......we just ignored him and let him past before we make change lane again Edited December 10, 2011 by I-LOVE-CARS

Example: signalled to filter left but filter right instead. Or signalled to filter right but filtered left instead. Otherwise, signalled left, filtered left half the lane the filtered back to the original lane.

Speedsun Clutched December 10, 2011 Share December 10, 2011 Have been driving for 10+ years, seldom really encountered "behind car accelerated and close gap" problem. Perhaps my practice is I do not signal too in advance when switching lane, I will moderate my speed to ensure I can safely switch to another lane then turn on my signal and start to change lane. Therefore the behind car will have not much time to close up the gap that fast???

Are you suggesting that if one signal in advance, it will trigger the driver's subconscious mind to accecelate and block the intruding car? Territorial behavior or comfort zone at work? Territorial behavior or comfort zone at work? Could be but for me is I will normally let a car comes to my lane after the driver has put on signal but the driver has to cut in fast. If not after a second or two, I will think the driver has no intention to come to my lane and I will accelerate to gain back my speed.
