Split Tooth..Need Advice

Have a split upper molar. Saw 4 dentists already :s22:

Dentist 1: Hopeless...need to extract.

Dentist 2: Need to see a specialist.

Dentist 3: Refer to a specialist for restoration if possible.

Dentist 4(specialist): Can be restored but got to spend lots of $$$. :o

Google search: Such a split has a very little chance of a good restoration. May still ended up with extraction.

My questions:

1) Shd i just extract? Cost less than $200 but if complication arise may need surgery $500-$1000.

2) There will be a gap(missing tooth) on my upper teeth 2nd molar from wisdom. Does it feels funny and still able to chew

there with the remaining teeth? Another option is to extract and do an implant but the cost is very high so ruled this out.

3) Shd I go for restoration and keep my finger cross? Cost abt $2000++. If fail will end up extracting....:s27: When I told the specialist that I seriously considering extracting he kept saying thats destructive method and I shd reconsider as its best to keep my natural teeth.

I think Ive all the options but I like to hear your experiences and advice. BTW, leaving it alone is not a solution cos high chance food may get stuck inside the crack and cause an infection. Not only that, if tooth further breakups, then surgery

is unavoidable.

So not a good idea to delay further and I sincerely hope forumers here can give me your views.

TIA

It's a matter of cost. IMO you can only blame yourself for not taking action early. The split across a tooth is usually gone case cos my dentist showed me before pics of his patients' split tooth, all cannot be saved. I dunno what is the condition of yours but if the dentist say still got hope if I were you I go for it cos no money can buy real tooth. Implants are even more painful to do plus it cost a bomb.

I myself have done 3 crowning. It's a pain & hassle to do them but I did not delay any further. The choice is yours.

My philosophy is always save the tooth if the chance is good. My friend has his 3rd tooth extracted many years back to save money. Today, he got lobang eat on that side.

I got a split molar, second one from the inner. Went to see a clinic one year back and was told the only way is to extract, the side of my gum was popping out and there's some slight bleeding previously. It has since been one year (never go for extraction). What I do daily is to floss in-between the split molar. If not a lot of food stuff will be stuck inside. So far no problem or pain.

The good news is a pre-molar not among wisdom tooth. So unlikely you get foolish after the tooth extraction.

The bad news is you going to miss one permanent tooth forever.

my premolar is split ... and 1/3 of the inside of the tooth had fallen off .... now only left the front 2/3 of the tooth.

funny things is, no pain at all !!

went to 3 dentists - all also refused to do restorative work for me, eg, crown. All had the same conclusion - extraction and then leave it or do implant or bridge. but bottom line is, the tooth must go !!

well, i am still keeping it until who knows when ... can't stand the thought of extraction yet.

btw, extraction is the cheapest of the lot and yet they all just want to extract ... so money is definitely not on their mind.

Bro, ur case may be diff. Yours may be just a chip. Mine is a split right in the middle and the pulp and root is also split.

If left alone, decay and gum infection will surely happen. Thats why hv to decide asap.

Bro, u got to take care. My split started off as a crack abt 2 years ago. If u cont. to chew with it, it will split further. Flossing is not 100% clean and possibilty of infection is there. The dentist says if u leave the split tooth alone, it may one day split into few pcs and will need surgery to remove instead of just extraction.

I had a root canal done by a dentist in HK when working there.

Over a period of 2 months she had three goes at doing the root canal properly.

Each time it failed.

The fourth time appeared ok for a short while but I had a lot of pain when chewing.

Went back to her and she said I'd cracked the tooth while chewing, nothing to do with her crap root canal work.

Anyway I then had it extracted.

Yeah there's a hole where it used to be in front of the wisdom tooth but it doesn't give me any problems now.

bro, sad to hear that. why didnt u do a crown after ur root canal? chances of crack or split are high after root canal cos the tooth is week already. The dentist told me some ppl got the tooth split becos they did not followup with crowning due to the pain gone and save on crowning cost. eneded up extracting cos a split tooth hard to savage.

My split molar eventually decayed and dropped out not before giving me weeks of intense pain. If you can afford, bite the bullet to remove and do tooth implant.

wah bro, u can tahan weeks of pain?

Bro, i get what u mean. But its not only abt money, its a big operation with no garantee or a just small extraction. not forget all the pain and sufferings if still need to extract in the end. Read in the internet that split tooth hv little chance for restoration.
