Why George Yeo join a Malaysian group as V-Chairman?

He's a veteran member of miw... part of the inner-circle... experienced minister (who seemed a good performer except a few flaws plus losing his seat in the last GE), etc.

We all know ex-ministers (or senior post holders) will be given 'good' posts in GIC linked businesses after they retire, a typical 'reward system' used by the miw for its members.

But GY's case seems to break the 'tradition'..... he joined a foreign group instead of becoming a 'family' member of GIC/Temasek dynasty.

What went wrong?

Are his views on how singapore should be led/governed so different from the miw's views that the latter TL and 'abandoned' him? or its the other way round: he super TL with miw's refusal to change despite their failed methods which led to him losing his seat during the 2011 GE?

Does his departure (from the miw clan) signal the beginning of an 'exodus' of other miws from the party (due to fractions, infighting, etc)?

Or is his latest move to a foreign group just a detour / smokescreen leading to something 'drama' eg forming / joining a opp party?

Or all is well, nothing to think about, life goes on?

miw might have offered him a lucrative post in GIC/temasek etc, but he rejected it?

or miw told him "FO, and take care of yourself?"

Lose an general election 4 of 5 run away while 1 at least thick skinned tries to linger around.

Is this the so-called fighting spirit?

Neutral Newbie

Truth is why I dont see top oil majors or foreign banks hire him or people as such?

They are the cream of our elites in public sector!

Private companies hiring them is nothing IMHO. Peole of their "calibre" should be quickly snap up by top MNCs under Forbes listing!

it proves that private companies look him up..

u dun see ah seng or horsey being headhunted by others.

Before the defeats, the defeated have been telling the pple they joined politics to serve the people even if the road is hard. Once defeated (just one time), they suddenly 'lost' all interest in serving the people (ie stay on and continue grassroot work, and fight in next round to win the pple's support, then continue to serve) and instead disappeared and went elsewhere (presumably to make more money) and left their supporters. Where's the promise to serve and the fighting spirit? Or they now realised they have been fighting for the wrong things all these years and gave up?

Even a interschool sportsmen have stronger fighting spirit during the tournaments.

No more milliom dollars pay cheque thru 'politics'? no problem, just say "bye bye", they go somewhere else to earn the money...

One cold windy night, Sg.BG.Holy GY kneel by the bedside making his routine prayers before sleep, "The Atas" warned him that he will be very busy with more and more sembayang calls for him starting from bedok to every part's of this small island, he bravely and frankly reported to his Little Dragon ex-boss to consider scraping "Money Making Policies" naming just a few such as ERP,COE & PARF. His graceful pleads got the Baby God so angry and got himself a "Walking Certificate" from "Poor At Profitting / Master's The Greed"......Wish Good Luck To George.

LOL.... well put!

The last straw: before little dragon took buay kee to fly to his holilday resorts, he actually txt GY "Please also go pray for all the trains, tunnels, stations, depots..." GY then started counting with his fingers the numbers of trains, tunnels, stations.... and told himself "That is, I quit!!!"

MY's Sugar King promised him: "No need to pray, we have in-house chief priest to do that, you just sit in the aircon office, can already"

Personally I think there is a serious problem with our Government officials taking up private company appointment so quickly after leaving their official positions and some even have not relinquish other formal duties

this is a case where

as in GY, current confidential information of the state such as masterplan may be made use by the private company hiring him

in most countries, officials resigning or retiring from senior government positions, to offset the issue of conflict of interest, they are not allowed to take up private appoints with a year or sometimes two

what do you guys think

What you are saying is privileged information.

Good point but this is the first time two ministers are knocked out in a GE so no precedence in our history to take reference from.

Some one should raise this in parliament.
