He was shot by a round which was not accounted for. According to the account by the deceased's family member, absurd SAF officials made the family members of the dead servicemen to keep mum about the death. This is truly a piece of nonsense from the SAF. Imagine your son was killed by a stray bullet and the SAF expects you to keep quiet about the matter. True Singaporean sons are to undergo 2 years of compulsory military training with the "purpose" to deter aggression from the North and the South. Disgruntled conscripts receive pittance allowance of less than $500 a month and are forced to suffer in silence, risk their lives & limbs. While most of the conscripts think of ways to escape the system, the passionate loyal Malay Singaporeans are not allowed to serve in perceived sensitive positions in the military. How could the SAF compensate the family of these dead conscripts? Is there any point to promote them posthumously? No amount of money could revive the dead. According to the blog post written by the deceased's brother, the deceased was diagnosed with mild depression in secondary school. Yet the SAF allowed the deceased to bear arms. Is this incompetency by the SAF medical corps? The public must know the answers to - 1. Appropriate compensation to the deceased's family 2. The possible negligence by the Medical Officers. Genuine cases in the SAF were usually brushed off as malingering by freshly minted Medical Officers from Medical School. 3. Were the family members threatened or 'warned' by SAF officials to keep mum about the death? 4. The number of deaths not reported by the SAF since the '80s? 5. Were the training & safety procedures strictly followed? 6. I din expect that Sembawang is now used for section live firing exercises... With all the gadgets these days.. 1 combat load is now 8 rounds?
