Hi all,

Need some advice on Chiropractic Treatment.

Was at a mall and a roadshow by a Chiropractic clinic was there giving free checks on spinal health. From the check, they will invite you to go for a more thorough check which will include a Xray of the spinal columns and neck.

I went through the thorough check with Xray and the results were quite 'shocking'.

I always had neck pain but not so much that I can't function normally on daily chores. Still can play some sports. So I was shocked to see my Xrays showing a neck without much curvature, and a crooked spine.

So I am now offered a package of certain no. of sessions at special rate. And with more sessions pre-purchased, the better the price.
It is quite a big financial commitment so I hope bros/sis here can advice and comment if you had experience or heard about it.

Thanks for your time.
Cheers!

Hahahaha, I went through it. Gave up eventually.

Can't tell if it really helps 'cos gave up after 3~4 sessions. It's too pricey and mind you it gave you the impression that you could visit their clinic anytime during their operating hours, but's not. It's quite limited by their imposed time slots once you become their clients.... Oooops.... patients.

Almost 99% who went through the checks will have some problems with their neck and back.

I will rather go for tui na massage even if they are not effective in terms of correction. It's money more worth it and you feel more shiok after 1 to 2 hours of massage at far cheaper price than chiro (about 10 mins only).

Lastly, I don't believe in prepaid packages.

I have tried it before, it's really expensive for just a few minutes of twisting, and I can't feel its effects. Oseopathy may be more useful.

TS, I do not advocate Chiropathy, and also, it is not endorsed by the MOH here. Any issues, you are on your own buddy. Chiro is considered a form of alternative therapy. Founded or not, there needs more evidence. However, Aus is very hot on this, but even now, there have been lobbies to slowly remove them.
your call.

Take it from me, I was in the process of legislating some of these 'practices' and the process is pretty robust.

Put it to you, you dun see Drs having roadshows right? Apart from their talks at Hotels?

Don't fall for those that ask you to sign packages. I went through the same thing about a year back when I was at a spinal screening. After hearing that I need mandatory x-rays, I was apprehensive.

I looked around and found out that these chiropractors are unethical! I managed to find a chiropractor through reccomendation. He did not ask me for any x-rays nor ask me to sign any packages. The first visit was about 45 min long all in all including diagnosis and treatment.

After 5 sessions, now I only see him about once in one or two months for maintenance. Kind of like going to see a dentist for checkup.

There is no way that my condition would have required the "package" of treatments during the screening at the shopping centre.

well, not unless you are a 6 year old with a whole life ahead but since you managed to live your life pretty much normal, just continue doing so. unless it really affects you. bottom line is, you didn't even knew about the problem. imo, it's more like a marketing gimick... save the money bro...

I think the first important thing to do is to find out whether their chiropractors are local registered medical practitioner. Cos most often they are not, if you do a search chiropractors are not doctors. So if they are not doctors or specialist and they charge such high prices you must be careful.

I would say virtually no chiropractor is a registered medical doctor here in SG. It is not a recognised discipline.

Unless they have normal MD qualifications. Even normal MD will still need conditional registration here in SG, cos US medical degrees are not fully transferable with the UK system and vice-versa

My personal take is that many of their treatments are just short of quack treatments and bloody dangerous. rolleyes.gif

I rather trust normal TCM sinseh or physiotherapist.

I don't quite agree. Because, if you wait till it is broken, it will cost a bomb to repair/replace.
Like car engine. We need servicing regularly. If not, once it breakdown, the overhaul is very costly.
Same as our human body. Go for regular maintenance will let it last longer.
Example, most of us, who spend a lot of time in front of a computer will soon get back ache or neck ache.
If we go for massage regularly to soften the muscle, we will be fine.
If not and let it prolong, we ended up having frequent headache and need to go under knife to fix the problem.
A massage a week will keeps the doctor away.
Or relax on Osim everyday will keeps the doctor away. laugh.gif

Hi Kangadrool,
Thks for sharing your own experience.
My initial payment included a first treatment in which the doc target the problem areas based on the X-ray.
Of the many areas he adjusted, only my neck felt some immediate improvement. There were a lot of popping and cracking but my blocked sinus actually cleared.

I also have reservations about paying for packages and I prefer paying per visit. But the price diff is pretty good. Guess that's the marketing strategy.

Researching on orthopedists too which have much similarity with chiropractors.

surprisingly, MOH classify them under TCM.

While that few minutes with them are rather short, but then, i do feel that i don't wake up with tense up back or neck.

anyway, my first few treatment was covered by groupon deal ...

Thks Changman999,

Yeah. I felt like a toy action figure being stretched at odd angles. But it was quite good when my sinus cleared. The session's really short. Actual 'adjustment' done probably about 5 mins only.
