It's just like your car door not properly closed. The warning lights flashing and beeping will try to stop you from going further. It's not exactly a fault. In their case if all doors are not closed the signalling system won't give the train the go ahead.

SINGAPORE: Train service on the Downtown Line was disrupted during the morning rush hour on Tuesday (Oct 4), after a platform door at Sixth Avenue station was damaged.

In a tweet posted at 7.19am, operator SBS Transit said there were no trains running between the Sixth Avenue and King Albert Park stations. In another tweet at 7.48am, it said the disruption was caused by a “platform screen door fault”.

No train svc btwn King Albert Pk DT6 & Sixth Ave DT7 due to platform screen door fault. Free bus rides available at designated bus stops.

Twitter user @hyqqel posted photos of the damaged platform door, which was dislodged and teetering at a 45-degree angle, with its glass cracked.

The breakdown happened on the day of the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) Science paper, which was due to take place at 8.15am, as well as several examinations for GCE N-Level students.

In a message posted on its Facebook page, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said candidates affected by the train disruption should reach their exam centre before the end of the paper. Those who are unable to make in time should head to the nearest centre, it said, adding that the full duration of the paper will be given.

School candidates can also contact their school, while private candidates can call the MOE hotline at 6872 2220, the ministry said. A list of schools near to MRT stations is available on the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board’s website.
