Kangadrool Supersonic November 12, 2016 Share November 12, 2016 (edited) maybe got sponge bob below the wooden sleeper for better sleep, secured with none other than cable ties. Wood is not only very expensive, but difficult to get now. This is surely a lot less expensive than the 5 yrs problem with track fault that they seems clueless and still never admit that they haven't found the root cause of problem. They already spend money replacing wooden sleeper with concrete one, that a lot of money. There are some items that are built that way with the certain material. If we change the material to a completely different property, it must at least put through scientific research and not because they feel it's better, they feel it is stronger and decided to go ahead and change. It's not the way it works. Sometimes they may get away with it while other times things may get worst. The wooden sleeper in the tracks had been on tracks been donkey of years since early 1900s.. So it's more then 100 years history that the train track had been using the wooden sleeper. All these while so many other tracks that are longer in service then our current mrt track and have no problems. So what makes them think that it is the wooden sleeper problem? It seems like that like to anyhow hamtam and give reasons why changing to concrete would solve the track problem. Olden train are all made of metal and they all are super heavy, wooden sleeper still able to take the load with no problem. If let's say the team had done extensive research and found that concrete sleeper is better then wooden one then fine. I really mean extensive research.. Those research will take a few years, did smrt go through that process before deciding that concrete sleeper is better then wooden one?Differences between wood vs concrete.wood:More flexibleAbsorb vibration betterAbsorb more water.Concrete:Super hardDoes not adsorb vibration wellDoes not absorb water well.See both are totally different properties of compound.. Will that cause more issue in long run? No one knows.. Edited November 12, 2016 by Kangadrool ↡ Advertisement

Iirc. The wooden sleepers used elsewhere are solid pieces of wood that after decades of use are even recycled into solid furniture. Ho liao type material. The "wooden" sleepers mrt used were actually made from compressed wood chips? They defended the use of those material when questioned and said it's not an issue and they changed to concrete type due to normal wear and tear.
