Wow, that was a complex operation.

 

After bursting my old Astra's timing belt and ruined the engine, I have stayed away from cars using timing belt.

 

So far bias to timing chain. At least I haven't heard of timing chain replacement.

Timing chain wont exactly snap but there are cases of timing chain over running the cam gears too. None of them last forever. Need to do regular maintenance also.
