MacDuck 1st Gear February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 (edited) Taken from http://aquadoc.typepad.com/aquablog/2009/0...ge-in-1956.html What 5 Megabytes of Storage Looked Like in 1956 Marty Ennis sent this a picture of an IBM Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in 1956. It weighed one ton and stored 5 MB of data. It was introduced with the 305 RAMAC computer, the first computer with a HDD. And in case you're wondering what "PAA" signifies, it is 'Pan American World Airways', for many years (from the 1930s till 1991) the USA's principal international airline, now confined to the electronic dustbin of history. Jamesc Hypersonic February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 maybe those day pilot are very good, they dont need technology that advance to help them fly... Thats right. Last time no GPS. The pilot had to learn to navigate with a compass and a piece of string. Now if you crash on a desert island and the GPS is broke, the pilot won't know where he is.
