How much household $$$$ is considered enough for you?

Of course the more the merrier. But depending on one's situation, life stages and ability....realistically how much monthly pay is consider adequate for you to maintain a lifestyle acceptable and somewhat desired by you?

i know of some family with income just $1800 per month, can feed 2 parents and 2 JC-going kids. of coz money will be tight, but if they are a happy family, why not.......

Agree agree...happiness is related but not directly correlated with money. I have friends with househouse 'disposable' income of 5k...they have a car...and i seen them go nice restaurants and holidays. Have other friends with household income much higher but always seem to be living on budget.

It's all relative.

To survive in Singapore....actually $1000 per family is enough. No aspiration, no way out, no future...just go thru the 80yrs of life day in day out till die.

Lets analyse...for middle income

 

House = 400 (the rest from CPF. This allows you to buy a 3 bedder condo at $1 million)

Conservancy = 300

Pub = 200

Internet/phone bills = 250 (husband and wife)

Car = 1000

Petrol = 400

Road tax /car insurance = 250

Maintance / servicing = 50

Personal insurance = 500 (for husband, wife and 1 kid)

Give parents = 1500 (husband and wife)

Child = 1000

Food = 2500 (abt 80 per day combined for husband, wife and kid)

Household groceries = 500

Misc = 1000 (husband and wife)

Total = 9850

Savings = 2000 (husband and wife)

Grand total = 11850 (take home)

 

Combine salary = 13850

probably about $5k is good enough.
