Cyberspace is the new variable in the racial and religious field, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said on Tuesday.

The Internet lets dangerous remarks go viral quickly, and recent incidents involving insensitive remarks against other religions show that good relations cannot be taken for granted.

In a speech at the 10th anniversary of the Internal Security Department (ISD) Heritage Centre, Mr Teo, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, also touched on the continuing Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) threat and cyber espionage.

A new Counter-Terrorism Gallery was also launched at the centre.
