Many years back a shop at Defu Industrial Park replaced alternator (worn bearings) in my car with another Hitachi brand. Stock was Mitsubishi.

Repair is where need repair..they will only repair that area.....recon mean they will do full overhaul...

If your alternator is starting to give problems...get it fix quickly..a faulty alternator can potentially leave your car stalling on the road.

HI TS, rush is sharing the same engine as malaysia avanza, myvi 1.5 and alza. So should be using the same alternator, if you are familar with the malaysia, they can easily just overhaul/change the bearings and the carbon brush on ur alternator for you, cost around 50 to 100 rm. i got one spare part shop you might want to see if they had recon alternator. I got my alternator from this alternator specialist brand new for $230:

Chop Hock Hong
332, King George's Ave, King George's Building,
Singapore 208570

http://www.chophockh...ndex.cfm?GPID=1

Best is you bring down your original alternator and show it to them and
they can recommend you something that will fit.

BTW I have another alternator that I bought wrongly and doesn't fit my vehicle.
Its just a paperweight at the moment.
If it fits your car I can let it go cheap.
Here are pics of the spare i have laying around for your reference
in case you are interested. It has an "LS" type connection.

Just changed my Altis 1.6 alternator, fan belt, and belt tensioner at Stamford Tyres. $900 including labour. :(

Is that a decent price or did I just get ripped off?

Also, I'll need to change 2 tyres. They quoted me $88 each. Not sure what brand/model yet. Should I go for it?

In the spirit of sharing...........here goes.......

I had the same problem a few years back. delayed the repair until my battery ran out of juice.

here's what I did. I ripped out the alternator, went to an alternator reconshop. replaced the carbon brushes and bearings (some alternators need their rectifiers replaced too).

alternator came back like new. please understand that alternators are robust eqmt. the only parts that need maintenance are what I've mentioned. so don't get conned by these local lousy unproductive ripoff shops that quote you hundreds.

get your elbows dirt and it will just cost you about 45 dollars.
