kiasu, kiasi... ask urself do u or ur spouse came out from a certain reputable pri or sec sch so tat can go up into a good JC and subsequently uni? imho, tis act is like telling other ppl u tink ur child cmi and need to go to a very atas sch to get into those atas JC or uni...

usually, ppl wif real strength will not do tis and instead juz follow the flow...

dun flame me, but it's a true fact...

no la, just that as with all parents u will want something u tink will be best for the child.

same like with food, u will shop around to buy best food for ur little ones, so in a sense it is shopping for best school for him/her.

when i say best i do not mean academic records, i meant overall development and growth, so i will not be targetting super gd skools cos too much pressure, also since i am from certain religion, i will target skools that have the same culture and mindset

You asking me huh? If my kiddo is of another gender, my kiddo would have confirmed secured place to one of the top primary school in Singapore. And yeah I went to a good JC and then NUS.

What's your point? Yes I am Kiasu. You can even call me Kiasi. Frankly I wish there are more of people like you :D

i see... oh well... let's see if ur kid really come out as wat he/she will be... or maybe it will turn out the other way round... giving pressure is gd, but too much will only backfire... well, not my kid so be it...

Move house for convenience is ok.

Actually, on 'good' school' Both my wife and I came from 'good' schools but we will not be sending my kids there...cos the schools value/culture have changed over the years.

I regret not moving to enroll my kid in a branded school...

The school only have 12 students scoring above 250 for PSLE... out of a cohort of 260 last year

Cannot be more condemned than this

No I just make them take the bus to school every day (except weekends of course unless ECA).

no, we sold our flat cos it was a design plus flat and it was giving us structural problems.

then we coincidentally came across a place in a matured estate that was marketed below valuation with no COV needed. after we signed on the dotted line, we discovered there were 2 primary schools under 1km, a mixed (double session) and girl (single session) school.

to add on, we actually had the option of applying for pei chun under phase 2C as my in-laws was staying across the street but felt that the chances of getting in rather slim as 1km still have to ballot.

so, with a twist of Fate, we were fortunate to get a flat based on our budget and my DD get a school of her choice, which to us was a bonus as we don't have to ballot.

p/s: it can be very traumatising to witness men breaking down in tears when their kids' are not successful in getting a place through balloting
